Hello again, dear friend Anonymous. Welcome back to our sex talk column where readers submit questions, and we do our research to craft a story that answers as many questions as we can.
The topic of our latest submission: what are some unique masturbation tips and tricks?
Sometimes “getting there” using your tried-and-true, self-love methods feels like you’re going nowhere fast. That’s when having an arsenal of unique masturbation tips and tricks comes in handy. Angie Rowntree, founder and director of Sssh.com, explains why.
“You are always learning and evolving as a sexual being. At different times in your life, your sexual needs and desires will invariably change. And that’s all part of the joy to be found in discovering new ways to love yourself.”
Ahead are five of Angie’s masturbation tips and tricks that are out of the box. Pun intended.
Angie admits that it’s “tempting to go right for the clit, especially if you’re in a hurry or just really, really horny,” but arousal takes time to build. She encourages women to spread the love and focus on areas like their vulva or thighs. “Really engage your sense of touch and let those sensations build,” she says.
She also shares a reminder about the clit, which contains over 15,000 nerve endings. “Much of it is tucked away inside a woman’s body, so indirect stimulation can really be your friend. Also, don’t neglect your nipples.”
Angie drives home the point of a slow burn when it comes to building pleasure, and she’s a fan of a technique called edging, a practice that delays gratification. Edging is the act of taking yourself right to the brink (or edge) of orgasm … and then dialing it back. “Think of it as riding the waves, but not necessarily standing up to surf ‘the big one’ just yet.”
Angie recommends occasionally switching up the kind of toy you use to help you keep returning to the big O. “By trying new pleasure products every now and then (because not all clitoral stimulators are made the same), you can explore different pathways to orgasm, and you’re less likely to become stuck in a rut,” she explains. If you usually use a clitoral stimulator like a Magic Wand, try a toy designed for air-pulse stimulation, g-spot penetration, or even anal stimulation.
Well, you can, but Angie suggests engaging your other four senses during masturbation.
Plus, “Your brain is your largest erogenous zone, not just for all your filthy thoughts, but because it connects you to sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch.”
