Here at Poosh, we take our research in the beauty and wellness world rather seriously. We are journalists. Researchers. Guinea pigs. Hobbyists, one might even say. If there is a new wellness trend, we are trying it (after some deep consideration based on what we already know to be healthy, so don’t worry).
That said, 2023 was no different in our world. Lots of new gadgets, products, and discoveries crossed our paths. In fact, we rounded a few of them up for review.
Read on to stay in the know before 2024.
Although sleep is a very healthy habit, we’re borderline obsessive when it comes to our sleep stats. We’ve never slept better than before we started getting competitive with ourselves, trying for a better score on each night’s sleep than the one before. The Oura ring makes this super easy and chic, since they essentially look like regular jewelry. We’ve been seeing them on everyone these days.
“Good vibrations” is much more than a phrase. We can actually use different vibrational frequencies to DJ our moods and modes, so to speak. The Apollo wearable is a device that lets you tune the ‘tude from sleep to focus, along with a few spots in between (including workout recovery, meditation, and feeling social). We’ve known about this one for a while, but it’s definitely made a place for itself out in the world.
The kids have been making an effort to touch grass this year. OK, not just the kids, but they sure have coined the phrase. Studies have shown that time in nature categorically improves cognitive function, brain activity, mental health, physical activity, blood pressure and sleep. Not to mention, grounding (touching feet, hands, or body to the earth) can ease pain, lessen the numbers of circulating neutrophils and lymphocytes, and may even reduce inflammation.
Kourt does it, and, as we can see from her latest bundle of joy, the natural way ended up being the way to align her body for what it deserved. Seed cycling has lost its “huh?” response, and everyone knows exactly what you’re referencing when you say that it’s time to swap your rotation from sunflower seeds to pepitas.
We predicted it last year, and we were right. Those same data lovers that enjoy tracking their sleep also love tracking and improving their brain health. Neurofeedback devices help us to heal, breathe, and drop in. We love the Muse 2 for meditation.
Face taping isn’t new, but this year, it really gained traction and—dare we say it—normalcy. Whether you’re taping your lips closed to prevent mouth breathing overnight, or taping to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, kinesio tape has reached a new audience. It takes commitment, but it works.
Although the act of preventing colds and illnesses is far less glamorous than skincare and beauty, we’ve had an epiphany this year. We have recognized that immune health actually equals skin health. When our immune system is thriving, so is our glow. The more you know.
Buh-bye, bloat. And indigestion. And discomfort. And abdominal knots. Hello, toned abs, regularity, and deeper sleep.
We are so programmed to think we have very little control over gas, bloating, and general puffiness. We drink peppermint tea (which works wonders, don’t get us wrong) and take antacids, OTC products, and wait it out in the fetal position, bidding farewell to bikinis. But we’ve learned that manual manipulation, aka a soothing self-massage, can actually do amazing things for our digestion and our muscle tone.
Remember when we said we loved ‘80s-inspired workout wear? Well, we guess we like the workouts, too. Trampoline fitness has made a major comeback, whether it’s rebounding for lymphatic health, or just getting a serious sweat going. It’s crazy effective, and—we can’t lie to ya—super fun.
