We spend most of the year looking forward to our annual Poolside with Poosh event— And it finally arrived! We luxuriated poolside for a full day of self-care, colorful cocktails, and statement beauty looks, taking cues from the era of non-stop glamor herself … full-on Fifties Hollywood.
Kourt wanted our guests to feel as if they’d just entered a portal to another time where they could leave their coat at the door, slip into a silk robe, and lounge on a chaise with a Poosh-approved cocktail in hand. Think pin-up girl meets Slim Aarons. The vibes are immaculate; let us take you on a tour.
We’ve trusted Mindy Weiss to bring our most specific visions to life before, and we’ll trust her again. She and the Wheelhouse team helped us find a stunning private home in West Hollywood to curate the perfect spa-like oasis that felt open and sprawling yet private and exclusive, while our go-to photographer, Pierre Auroux, made sure to capture every last detail.
The party started as soon as Alto scooped up each guest and offered them a cosmetic case with all the Kjaer Weis essentials they’d need to touch up along the way, providing a little precursor to the glam to come. Parking and valet wasn’t a worry on anyone’s mind, so all were safe to imbibe from the 818 Dusk Tequila Bar after their treatments and wellness experiences (full menu here, and detailed below).
THE TREATMENT: CUSTOMIZED GENEO FACIALS
Upon entry and check-in, guests were invited to experience a beauty salon the Fifties could only dream of. They could opt for a one-of-a-kind Geneo skincare treatment to deeply oxygenate their skin that was customized to their needs, with choices such as Detox, Hydrate, Revive, Glam, Illuminate, or Balance for a long-term glow.
Some guests not feeling up for a facial at an event like this? No problem. Geneo treatments are designed to rejuvenate and refresh the skin anywhere on the body, so the experts easily pivoted to doing chest, stomach, upper back, arms, and booty treatments; the guests called the shots. A gift card to a Geneo service provider was also in the goodie bag, so guests could experience a full, juicy session on their own time at a later date.
THE TREATMENT: SHARK BEAUTY— FIFTIES HAIR MEETS THE FUTURE
It’s not easy getting into character for a theme like this, and we know it. That’s why we relied on Shark Beauty™’s newest product to perfectly style each guest’s locks if they wanted, before (or during, or whenever!) entering the poolside area. The Shark FlexStyle™ Air Drying & Styling System is totally revolutionizing the way we get all-the-way-ready, if you know what we mean. Dry, curl, shape, lift, and style all in one fell swoop—for any hair type—instead of using multiple tools. It saves loads of time without all the heat damage, which is MAJOR. Plus, it gave our guests an opportunity to glam up on the fly à la icons including Marilyn Monroe, Sofia Loren, and Audrey Hepburn, so that they could get back out to the party looking their absolute best.
THE TREATMENT: KJAER WEIS CUSTOM FIFTIES BEAUTY SALON
When we think of ultimate Fifties glamor, Marilyn’s perfect pout can’t help but come to mind. If need be, Kjaer Weis’s setup was fully decked out to do a full-face post-facial treatment, but the stars of the show were the lip pencils and matte lipstick, for perfectly kissable pouts to match Shark Beauty’s luxe locks.
THE TREATMENT: PERFECTING OUR POOSH POTION SECRET EREWHON SMOOTHIE
Once fully pampered and glammed, guests were invited to experience our smoothie bar, where we were putting the final touches on our top-secret Poosh Potion Detox Erewhon Smoothie … launching soon! We’ve been working on the special Poosh recipe for a while now, but guests were able to taste the sneak peek and take home a super cute Tag Along Too Mini Igloo Cooler stocked with some of our smoothie’s yummy ingredients, like organic coconut water and the coconut yogurt alternative by Harmless Harvest, super fresh and clean MALK Almond Milk, and a few more nutrient-rich and hydrating goodies.
THE TREATMENT: FIFTIES BOUDOIR MOMENT WITH SLIP SILK
After getting nourished by our detox smoothie, guests entered the pool area lined with era-appropriate lounge chairs and umbrellas. To their left, they were met with a completely silk, completely sexy boudoir featuring Slip silk sheets, pillowcases, eye masks, scrunchies, robes, and a downright cinematic set in which to play dress-up and get the perfect shot to showcase their fresh, vibrant, iconic looks.
THE TREATMENT: FRAME FITNESS PILATES PREVIEW
As much as this event is about Fifties-glam decadence, we’re still lovers of all things wellness. Frame Fitness is the first ever foldable, digital Pilates reformer meant for the home, and it is super compact and sleek. Guests were invited to try out a few different low-impact modes at five to seven minutes each. They got a feel for the machine and its accompanying digital screen for guided flows, and saw how seriously effective a few moments on it can be.
THE TREATMENT: FIRE CUPPING BY REMEDY PLACE
After making an appointment at the entrance, guests found their way to a serene, gauze-draped tent where they were greeted by a plush massage table and the Director of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Dr. Natazia zu Stolberg, L.Ac, DACM, at Remedy Place. (Remedy Place is the world’s first social wellness club, with locations in LA and NY, and our team loves it here, ICYMI). A linen boule was lit with a candle to create a vacuum in the glass cups for a traditional fire-cupping treatment, reducing tension in the neck, shoulders, and back and encouraging better blood flow to these areas while our guests relaxed. They left not only with a sense of energized calm, but also with a few perfectly round circulation marks as temporary wellness souvenirs.
POOLSIDE SUPPLY:
Of course, Fifties iconic glam involved a lot of poolside lounging and perhaps less swimming, unless you were in the synchronized swimmer performance crew. Were our guests to feel inclined to lay out and get some warm rays, we kept a gifting suite stocked with glam shoes by Larroude to pair with sexy, cheeky bikinis from Inamorata—like these ruched bottoms in black or leopard with some support on top—or chic, classic cuts from Solid and Striped, like a deep v one-piece, a belted number, or a high-waisted bikini in timeless bold gingham or classic stripe. Of course, there were changing areas to try on what fit best, and a sunscreen bar featuring Vacation’s Classic Whip SPF 30 and a candy-like arrangement of lip balms to make sure everyone was protected once outfitted in their ideal look.
After experiencing every gorgeous, totally inclusive treatment and Poosh-approved product, it was time to sit and take in the vibes. Incredible music artist Mayer Hawthorne provided the sounds while guests enjoyed our personal Poosh cocktails made by Cocktail Academy and inspired by legendary Fifties songs. Cherry Pink included vodka, black cherry, and beetroot; Tutti Frutti was 818 Tequila, watermelon, aloe vera, and Harmless Harvest coconut water; All Shook Up was an energizing blend of 818 Tequila, matcha, Harmless Harvest coconut water, and L-Theanine for chill; and Splish Splash was a refreshing mix of 818 Tequila, cucumber, mint, aloe vera, and Sakara Life Chlorophyll Detox Water Drops— which guests were sipping on all day as well—to keep hydration and glow levels high.
Of course, no iconic glam party is complete without true blue, stunning crystal glasses, and Baccarat generously made sure every guest had something absolutely gorgeous from which to sip on these magic elixirs… marvelous darling, just marvelous.
If you know Poosh, then you know that food is typically one of the first things on our mind— so of course there were delicious treats, snacks, and nourishing plant-based meals to keep the energy strong and cushion those delicious cocktails. We entrusted Daring Foods to provide a drive-thru-inspired menu with fried plant chicken and french fries (and it truly tasted exactly like real chicken) as well as tray-passed hors d’oeuvres and a 1950s-inspired picnic-style spread with cobb salad and plant chicken, a mezze hummus and veggie plate, and sliders, or “bird dogs”—aka plant chicken sandwiches with mini hot dog buns and all the fixings.
