We’re sure by now you’ve heard: Kourt and Travis are having a baby … and it’s a boy! Last Saturday, on a quick stop from Blink 182’s tour, the Barkers had a gender reveal party. And they planned it in less than 48 hours.
Here are the behind-the-scenes details:
The initial plan was always to have Travis play the drums, and since baby pink and blue wasn’t really on-brand for them, an on-the-nose, rock-n-roll theme (plus a little of Kourt’s elevated, chic aesthetic), made the “Tour Stop” vibe come together naturally. Of course, many thanks to event planner Corrie Mendes, who they called Thursday night when the idea struck, for setting it all in motion.
Upon arriving at the intimate gathering, guests’ first stop was a will call counter where they received credentials and wristbands as if they were entering the next stop on tour. They could choose a pink or blue wristband to showcase their guess on what gender the baby might be.
Graphic designer Edgar Regalado created a Baby Barker-themed band poster with the date and location, and it was so cute to see the motif repeated in the credentials and invite. Everyone was so obsessed with it, they wanted merch with the design, although it was a one-time special piece.
Following will call and wristband (read: gender guess) selection, guests grabbed their entry glasses at a champagne table surrounded by Travis’ snare drums and sticks, a baby’s breath arrangement, black taper candles, and a little microphone to finish off the entry decor.
After visiting the entry table, guests walked “backstage” to check out a kids coloring station (featuring an outlined version of the Baby Barker tour poster), a bar, and concessions set up behind the literal stage (curated by Production Designer for Blink 182 John McGuire) being used for the announcement. Authentic wooden stadium seats set up around roadie cases acted as coffee tables where guests awaited the action.
Guests were also invited to explore the Tour Memories corner where they could leave a note for future Baby Barker and take photos on disposable cameras for Kourt and Travis to use later in their baby scrapbook.
Of course, the 818 bar stayed stocked with two specialty cocktails—The Love Child, a pink refreshment with a serving of Lemme Fall in Love, and Rock-a-Bye Baby in frosty blue.
Concessions included delicious goodies by none other than Chef K‚ and in an unprecedented move, Kourtney said NO DIETARY RESTRICTIONS. She wanted to have the yummiest food possible, so there were nachos, popcorn, chicken nuggets, corn dogs, hot dogs, sliders, pizza, and more, as well as vegan options of everything.
John, the designer, suggested biodegradable paper streamers for the reveal. While Kourt and Travis were both excited for whatever God’s plan was for their baby, the blue pop bursting from the streamer cannons was electric. You couldn’t really see them until they were floating in the air, making the anticipation of the big secret that much more exciting.
Most of the guests anticipated a girl, so the surprise elevated the celebration.
