Consider this your sign to have a joint bachelor/bachelorette party.
While it may seem unconventional, that’s what Kourt and Travis did in Palm Springs, ahead of their Italian nuptials.
“It was the perfect intimate weekend with Kourt and Travis’s closest friends and family,” says Steph Shep, one of Kourt’s BFFs who helped plan the weekend. “Kim, Khloé, and Kris went above and beyond to bring the idea to life. It was really nice to have that moment with everyone before the big day!”
We caught up with Steph to get the behind-the-scenes scoop on how the moody, romantic, co-ed weekend came to be.
The aesthetic was inspired by Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo & Juliet. “We worked with Mindy Weiss’s team to bring in our favorite elements from the ‘90s Shakespearean classic,” Steph says. “Because I was in Milan with Kourt for the wedding planning, I knew this would be the perfect extension to the vibe.”
She started planning in a tried and true way—with a Pinterest board.
“I love Pinterest, and I think it’s the best way to build a moodboard with all the details,” she explains. “We wanted tons of candles on a long dining table and blood-red floral decor. We also found some incredible vintage table settings and candelabras. The theme was very romantic and moody, and like the film, we had accents of Catholic iconography.”
“For the most part, everything was a surprise for Kourt,” Steph says. “The only direction she gave was for it to be co-ed. So Kris, Khloé, Kim, and I really took the reins and ran with it.”
“My personal favorite were the poison shots, an ode to the finale of Romeo and Juliet’s epic love story. Our take was 818 with purple food coloring,” Steph says.
They also had gift baskets filled with Kourt and Travis’s favorite things waiting for everyone in their rooms when they arrived in Palm Springs. “Skeleton onesies, Skims blankets, Barker Wellness Tincture Sets, the Prenup candle from Snif, and I made sure to put some fun bride-and-groom knickknacks (Minnie and Mickey ears baseball hats, matcha mugs, fun veils, etc) in Travis and Kourt’s room too!” Steph says.
The first night was the romantic dinner party of course, where all the guests could celebrate them as a couple more casually, pre-nuptial style. The second night was a casual dinner just at the home while an outdoor movie played by the pool on a big inflatable movie screen.
“It was a chill weekend,” Steph says. “We had dinners and a movie planned, and the rest of the time was relaxing by the pool!”
