If you’ve been keeping up with our hydration game, you know how important minerals are to us at Poosh, inside and out. But it was actually the law of attraction that brought us together with, Michelle Vidal, our first-ever Project Poosh winner (the entrepreneur initiative we launched for our second birthday) and founder of AlkaGalm. In 2017, before Poosh was even born, Michelle had a vision board of her product, and an image of Kourt and her sisters. When she heard about our Project Poosh competition, she knew she had to apply. As luck would have it, she won and was able to bring her super innovative idea to life in the form of Poosh x AlkaGlam, she knew she manifested it—she still has the vision board to this day. This exclusive collab is a facial-mist device that purifies, remineralizes, and nourishes using unique science and essential minerals like you’ve never seen before in a topical, and we’re super excited.

After a year in the making, The Carbon Purifying Facial Mist is something Kourt is really proud of. “I really wanted to introduce something sustainable and support a female founder in clean beauty. I’m so excited for Poosh to be a part of this product because of how unique the technology is,” Kourt says.
After trying several formulas, Kourt and Poosh chose this particular formula because it was beautifully solution-oriented. This Poosh exclusive is a completely new formulation that uses a mix of minerals (zinc, grey tourmaline, silver, mafian stone, magnesium) and kaolin soil, plus activated carbon. It’s an amazing product that helps draw out dirt and excess oil as well as pH-balance all skin types while improving the appearance of skin.
Kourt was very hands-on with the entire process, even down to the packaging and bottle shape. What you’ll see: a travel-friendly bottle with a bunch of different-colored mineral beads (known as o-dobi beads) inside so that you can watch the science happen. You add vials of distilled water, et voila. Magic.

Michelle comes from a water-purification family business that her father started 28 years ago. When she struggled with acne and couldn’t find anything that helped, her father kept encouraging her to try mineralized water (think high amounts of zinc and magnesium). When that pure, pH-balanced water quickly cleared her issue, she knew she had to create AlkaGlam. She backs up the science of the product itself by explaining:
“The product is a tool. It converts distilled water into a concentrated formula with minerals for your skin to help draw dirt and clarify the skin and improve skin texture. The water goes through the first chamber, then is released into a second chamber in the bottle, mixing with our mineral concentrate—clay mineral beads which release ingredients that activate with water throughout the year. The contact time with the ingredients to convert the water into a mineral-concentrated formula is only 20 seconds.”
Kourt likes that it’s such an easy addition to any skincare routine. “We also loved that this one bottle can last up to a year, and you can just refill with distilled water to activate the minerals, so it’s an environmentally sustainable choice as well, which is super important to us at Poosh.”
On the manufacturer’s end, they reuse their own plastic as well, breaking it down and reforming it. AlkaGlam encourages users to send their old bottles back for a 15% off their replacement, to keep the plastic in the fam.
After careful development and six iterations of different formulas, the Poosh team finally landed on a specific grouping of minerals that is not only incredibly effective in nourishing, clearing, and protecting the skin, but is gentle for all skin types and won’t interact with the actives in your other skincare. Use it as a toner after cleansing to bring the skin back to a balanced pH, and before serums and creams so they are more effectively hydrating, locking in moisture and minerals. It’s also the perfect addition to your carry-on for an in-flight cleanse or refresh—a spray a day keeps acne, oil, and redness at bay. And there you have it. Sustainability, science, and solutions, all in one bottle.
