Travel is certainly a luxury, but if you have the means—and the time—it is an epic, memory-making experience.
At Poosh, we are all about exploring the world, for the betterment of ourselves and our souls. We’ve brought you travel diaries in the past that showcase certain destinations and their cultures, and while this travel diary is about all of that, it’s also about the value of bonding and connecting.
You can do all the planning and prep, but nine out of ten times a trip doesn’t always go exactly as planned (and hey, that just makes for more memories and pooshing yourself to go with the flow). That’s where we’ll kick off our experience.
So, 10 p.m. rolls around the night before we’re supposed to leave for Cabo, and my boss, Sarah, calls and lets me know Rachel just realized her passport is expired and Sam got sick and can no longer attend. Luckily, Rachel was able to schedule an appointment to get her passport expedited, and Hopper being the airline angels that they are were able to find a later flight for her. If you’re unfamiliar with the service, we suggest downloading the app ASAP. The app allows you to set up notifications for flights so you can track and book at the lowest rates (among many other features). They were also able to switch Sam’s ticket to another passenger. The team at Hopper quite literally saved our trip and were so speedy answering our late-night and early-morning calls. Bless them.
Crazy morning of travel aside, we arrived in Cabo at Chileno Bay Resort, aka Poosh Paradise. The property is incredibly gorgeous and the staff is A+ on all levels. We enjoyed a quick lunch by the pool while we waited for Rachel to arrive on her later flight and then we all rested a bit before getting ready for our first dinner at Comal.
The indoor-outdoor restaurant allows you to dine amid the ocean breeze. There’s also a massive fire pit where you can enjoy cocktails before your dinner. All of the food is sustainably sourced and has a contemporary spin on traditional Mexican dishes. Our favorite was the roasted chicken—it was so juicy with a perfectly crispy skin. So good we had to go back on night two and order it again.
Comal was our hot spot during the trip since it was located on Chileno Bay’s property—breakfast was so fresh, and we tried everything from loaded avocado toast to delicious smoothies. Oh, and you have to try the special iced coffee (we won’t share the secret ingredients). We also recommend making a reservation at Esperanza, which is a 20-minute drive from Chileno Bay—the seared scallops look divine.
On our last night, we checked out the Insta-famous Flora Farms, where everything is farm-to-table. If you’re headed to Cabo, it’s a must-visit. The whole restaurant is located on a farm and is decorated to look like you’re in a quaint oasis with live music, a mini market, and a million photo opportunities. We regretted not ordering two dishes of the burrata toast (seriously, so good). We also had seasoned asparagus, wood-fired pizzas, and wine, of course.
Chileno Bay offers morning yoga classes set up on the property’s deck so you can enjoy your session overlooking the sunrise. We had a private lesson with Lori Painter, which was the perfect way to stretch and start our morning. After our yoga session, we posted up in a cabana by the pool, which was great because we could bounce back from shade to sun. The staff served us fresh coconut water, skinny margs, and a complimentary foot rub.
We also had the chance to experience the property’s dreamy spa, where you can relax in three different rooms equipped with a salt sauna, mini dipping pool, and luxurious loungers. We each had the two-stone massage, which was a delightful way to spend our last afternoon and relax before heading to dinner.
First things first, pack your SPF. We stocked our luggage with Coola face and body organic sunscreen. Coola’s spray application is always the easiest way to make sure your body is protected from the UV rays. To ensure your face is properly cared for during vacation, pack Foreo’s Luna 3, a high-tech silicone device that comes with a travel-size cleanser. The cleansing device is easy to use and leaves your skin smooth and glowy.
Let’s talk swimwear. We packed an assortment of brands like Summersalt, Oséree, Sommer Swim, and Reina Olga. Summersalt offers over 280 styles that are all flattering and ring in under $100. They also have chic cover-up options perfect for wearing to breakfast or lunch. For vacation looks, it’s always easiest to pack printed dresses and matching sets that you can quickly throw on and head out the door. See some of our Cabo outfits below.
