Emily: We were talking about Poosh and Inamorata and how we both work with our best friend from high school
Kourt: Yes
Emily: So funny.
Kourt: Yeah it is and all that goes with it.
Emily: Yeah working with friends is hard and also amazing and rewarding.
Kourt: Yeah it is. I feel that I should sit down with the two friends.
———–
Emily: Its so funny like you were saying Poosh is really fulfilling, that’s how I feel about Inamorata. It’s a great creative outlet that you get to control and you don’t have anyone telling you what you have to do which I love.
———–
Kourt: Instagram is a big part of your brand, you know … same with me, and if you post you know sexy photos and stuff, then you think I don’t know … it’s part of your brand, how do you feel in the work-place, if people take you seriously but I was like we have our own things that you don’t have to worry about that.
Emily: No but that is just a good point like I talk about it a lot because I think it’s so funny, like of course the initial reaction when you post a sexy photo, its like “oh my god naked again” like “she’s so stupid”.
Kourt: “You have nothing else to post.”
Emily: Yeah “you have nothing else to offer”. And I’m like actually no I’m running a business off of this so … like no. It’s part of branding and it’s kind of funny, you think of the idea of those white men, older men in suits being like oh no we don’t take her seriously and then we’re making more money than them, and I love that.
Kourt: Yeah and I just think accepting people for whatever they want to do, it’s like “how does that affect you” and why does everyone feel the need to be so judgemental.
Emily: It’s crazy that in 2019 that’s still a stigma. I remember you launched with that amazing picture of you with that laptop right?
Kourt: Yeah
Emily: And it was the typical headlines.
Kourt: Yeah like “this is what you have to do to promote something” like “yeah i did” and it worked.
Emily: Yeah but you looked great.
Kourt: Thanks
Emily: Like that’s the thing. It’s just so crazy, I get in the 80s and 90s and whatever… early 2000s but like now for that to still be a thing is wild to me.
Kourt: And also I thought it was like “oh I have this hair towel and computer a tea, it’s natural” and then I remembered showing somebody some of our photos that we were thinking of using and some were more lingerie and some were more natural, nakedy girl and so I decided to take the lingerie out because I felt that it was too sexy, instead of …
Emily: Well like you may be naked at home but if you have lingerie on, it’s an implication is there must be a guy, right?
Kourt: Totally.
Emily: That’s smart.
Kourt: And you just launched lingerie too right?
Emily: Yeah so we call it body because its like bodysuits and bike shorts and stuff you can wear outside.
Kourt: So is that like the clothes?
Emily: Yeah so we call it body it’s just sort of like, it is lingerie but its so much more than that. It’s kinda like the idea of swim too, which is like a girl who is so comfortable in her body that she wears it around the house or she lives in her swimsuit, or she lives in her body, you know? Actually very in line with Poosh.
Kourt: Yeah.
———–
Kourt: Should we see your swim?
Emily: Yes! Oh my gosh I’m so excited about this collection actually because well the images are super cool, it’s all super 80s. So that is a one piece. Anything you want you can keep.
Kourt: Thank you.
Emily: This is a little cheetah one piece, everything is super high cut.
Kourt: I love that. I love high cut.
———–
Emily: I’m constantly looking for inspo. I really want it to be like every suit is something I would wear, like every piece is something I personally would wear because I think you get lost when you are like “oh we should do this color wear” or do this thing but I want everything to be something I am really proud of

Kourt: Now my mom always taught us, you have to always wear matching bras and underwear.
Emily: I know my mom did that same thing.
Kourt: That was like her thing. You have to wear matching bras and underwear, you never know who you’re going to see, you never know if you get into a car accident and you have to take your clothes off. Like she would always tell us these stories.
Emily: I remember getting dressed when I was like 12, you were talking about your mom, and she was like … I think we were going to some dinner or something and she was like “put on cute underwear” and I was like “why” and she was like “it’s just for you, it makes you feel like its a special occasion”.
Kourt: Aw that’s cute.
Emily: And I think about that for me all the time. Like it’s the little things you can do for yourself, like you talk a lot about that on Poosh, it’s just like take that extra 5 minutes. Even if it doesn’t make a difference at all, no one else knows about it, it’s for you.
Kourt: It’s about how you feel. That’s how I feel about buying new lingerie. You don’t know if anyone is even noticing really.
Emily: Yeah probably not.
Kourt: It’s just how it makes me feel, even to know that if i’m going out one night and i’m wearing a new bra that night, it makes you feel …
Emily: It gives you a little boost.
Kourt: Yeah.
Emily: That’s what the great thing about fashion and beauty is, it’s for you. And ultimately, if it makes you feel a little bit better about yourself, then that’s going to carry with you and whatever you’re doing in your day.
———–
Kourt: If you want to give advance to a young girl starting her own business, would you have anything?
Emily: Yeah. I think there’s a really big feeling that I had of like “I don’t know what I’m doing”, I didn’t go to business school, my parents, my dad was a painter and my mom is an English professor so they don’t know anything about work in that way. So I had a little bit of like “oh man”, I don’t want to act like I know too much and I think that’s a feeling that women get a lot, like “oh it’s really not my space”, but since i’ve been doing this for over 2 years now, I realize that everyone is just faking it until they make it and you should do that too and like as a woman, don’t feel afraid just because you’re not super well educated in a space. You can learn and you can learn quickly.
Kourt: And I think for me the biggest thing was finding something that I love to do. Like my mom always said “find your passion and figure out how to get paid for it”.
———–
Kourt: Okay so my final question, what do you want to Poosh yourself to do more of?
Emily: Oooo. I think I really want to do, like in every space, not just in Inamorata, I really want to do things that i’m behind the scenes of and that im controlling. And thats something that has taken me a long time to realize because when I first started working in this industry and like having a career, I was just like “oh wow thanks for calling, like i’ll do this job, amazing” but now I just really love .. mostly from being behind the scenes with Inamorata, I want to make my own films. I want to be the person making the projects.

Emily: Thanks for having me Kourt.
Kourt: Thank you. I’m going to pick some bathing suits.
Emily: Yes.
