When and why did you start your company?
“I started Zena Foster Beauty in 2017. I started ZFB basically out of necessity, but really it was inevitable since I spent my early years in my mom’s salon. I had the beauty bug early watching how she made people feel beautiful and confident. In my case, I had active kids and was trying to run a house while my husband Tank was on the road. I loved the spa but didn’t always have the moments to make time for myself. So, taking the best things that I loved from the spa and being able to do them at home was a must. And that’s how I started Zena Foster Beauty.”
What has your career path been like?
“It’s been a dream really. I started out as a cheerleader for the St. Louis Rams and felt that I wanted more, so I decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a professional dance career. There were a lot of hard days with auditions, but I was blessed to have success touring with Christina Aguilera, Usher, Jamie Foxx, Pitbull, Ne-Yo, Snoop, Toni Braxton, and my future (at the time) husband Tank. I’ve had a lot of success and even found my soulmate.”
What’s the core mission of your brand?
“The mission of Zena Foster Beauty is to focus on skincare and self-care always! There are so many stressors in this world that affect our bodies, and they can show up in our skin/overall appearance. All of our tools address those things and more. In order to take care of others, you have to be at your best and most importantly feel good.”
What’s your most popular item that you sell and why?
“Our most popular item is the Polished Exfoliating Mittens, because you can get the same benefits of the Korean spa from the comfort of your home. It’s an instant gratification due to the immediate results.”
What has surprised you the most since starting your company?
“I feel like everything surprises me … every day, I have seen something new. I know there are so many products and tools out there, and I am always shocked at the support that Zena Foster Beauty has received and how the brand is being embraced by this growing community.”
What’s a lesson you’ve learned as a founder?
“It’s expensive AF! I learn something new every day, but the most important lesson that I’ve learned is that you can’t do it all by yourself. ZFB is a growing black business, and my family and friends have all supported me in helping to build it. My household helps me pack orders. They’re my personal assistants, so it’s a lot of teamwork.”
What can we expect in the future for Zena Foster Beauty?
“My next step in Zena Foster Beauty is to create a skincare line because healthy skin is the best foundation.”
