While Golde launched only four years ago, the wellness brand is blowing up big time. Here’s how it all started. Engaged couple Trinity Mouzon Wofford and Issey Kobori co-founded Golde, a wellness line that started with one product: The Original Turmeric Latte Blend. After starting their business from an apartment, they’ve grown to now selling a variety of superfood latte blends and face masks. The line is vegan and cruelty-free so you can rest assured that the products you’re applying and ingesting are something you want in and on your body. When and why did you start your company?
“I co-founded Golde in January 2017 with my partner (and high school sweetheart!) Issey. We were both just 23 at the time. I started Golde because I believed that self-care could be fun and easy for everyone—we wanted to create a voice and a product offering that felt truly inclusive and feel-good for the next generation of wellness.”
What has your career path been like?
“Growing up, I wanted to be a doctor. I was inspired by mom’s journey with an autoimmune disease, and the difference she saw in her symptoms after seeing a more holistically minded physician. I was pre-med at NYU, and all was well until I found out from my mom that she actually had to stop seeing that doctor because she couldn’t afford it anymore. That really forced me to pause and consider what I wanted to do in wellness and how accessibility played into it. Post-college, I ended up sort of falling into a marketing career at a tech startup in New York, and absolutely loved it. I was definitely still that friend or coworker who was recommending various herbal remedies to you, though, so I knew I had to come back to that passion point. I started working on Golde when I was still at my full-time job, and the rest is history!”
What’s the core mission of your brand?
“At Golde, we’re on a mission to make superfood self-care for everyone. We believe that wellness can be fun, easy, and inclusive for all.”
What’s your most popular item that you sell and why?
“The Superfood Latte Blends do so well. Those are our first-ever product. Our Clean Greens face mask is also a cult fave, as is Pure Matcha! I think people love the rituals of these products and how they really do make a noticeable difference in their skin/gut health/energy with continued use.”
What has surprised you the most since starting your company?
“I’ve been so delighted by the rewarding process of building a team. When we started out, it was just me and my partner Issey, and we didn’t really have plans of growing the business to the scale that it’s at now. We’re so lucky to have found these incredibly passionate people who have been inspired by our mission along the way. I couldn’t imagine running this without them.”
What’s a lesson you’ve learned as a founder?
“Don’t be afraid to say no! Not every opportunity that’s presented to you is right at that moment. Trust your gut and do it your own way.”
What can we expect in the future for Golde?
“We have loads of new products coming that I’m so excited about. They’ve been in the works for a while, so I’m glad I’ll finally be able to talk about them soon. We’ve also built this really engaged community through the brand, and I’m excited to share more ways that we’ll be scaling that in 2021 and beyond.”
