When prepping for a job interview, you already have enough to consider. Do I have talking points of my accomplishments ready? Are my personal wants clear? Have I researched the person I’ll be interviewing with? The list goes on. So the last thing you should stress about is what to wear. To ease your sartorial prep, we tapped Michal Goldvaser, Senior Recruiter at The Workshop LA, to share pointers and a no-fuss outfit combination you can always count on for an interview. Read on for how to nail your first impression (but remember above all, your intelligence is everything, and how you present yourself is simply a bonus).
“Wearing the right thing for an interview is super important. Besides your resume, it’s the first impression. When going to an interview, I always prep my candidates to do their research on the brand. Wear something brand appropriate. If it’s a cool denim brand you’re meeting, then wear their jeans. Don’t overdress, but don’t underdress either. A foolproof outfit is always polished black jeans and a nice blouse or lightweight knit.” Keep this combination top of mind the next time you’re meeting with a potential new career opportunity so it’s one less thing to knock off your pre-interview checklist.
