Don’t be so salty.
Unless that salt is Celtic salt.
There are plenty of salts on the market (kosher salt, table salt, pink salt, black salt—the list goes on). While the health-conscious person typically tends to view salt as the villain of seasonings, not all salts are created equal.
Celtic salt is thought to be one of the most mineral-rich salts out there and it’s one of Kourt’s favorites to use, so we reached out to her nutritionist Leona West Fox CN, CH, FMCHC to get all the info on this salty mineral.
“Celtic sea salt is a specific type of sea salt originally harvested from the coastal regions of Brittany, France,” Leona shares. “It’s produced using a traditional method of evaporating seawater, which is why it is one of the least-processed forms of sea salt.”
What are the benefits of Celtic salt?
“[Celtic salt] is thought to be one of the most mineral-rich salts in the world, due its ability to retain its mineral content,” says Leona. “It’s important to note that there is only a small difference between various types of all-natural, minimally processed sea salts, including Himalayan salt.”
Some studies have suggested that natural sea salt may cause less hypertension compared to refined (table) salt. Of course, any salt should be used in moderation for best results.
What makes Celtic salt different from regular table salt?
“Table salt is highly refined and processed,” explains Leona.
The refinement of table salt makes it finer and much easier to use than sea salt, but this process may also remove natural trace minerals.
