Every year, spring creeps up on us. And every year, we decide to do a little cleaning to refresh the space around us—but what about clearing out our mental space so that our everyday life is just that much better? Our mental state—what we consume, read, listen to, watch, who we choose to speak to, and more importantly, where we put our energy—is a direct reflection of our level of happiness. Living our best life is always a priority. That’s why we are taking inventory of our day-to-day activities. We’ll start with our list of recommendations.
Get rid of any temptation by cleaning out the junk food from your house. Making conscious food choices will give you more energy throughout the day. Sticking to a plant-based diet can boost your overall brain power, improving your health, longevity, and quality of life. By consuming fruits and vegetables, your complex carbohydrate, water, and fiber intake is high, allowing you to feel fuller for a longer period of time. You won’t struggle through what used to be an afternoon lull. Try a light, fresh, and easy meal to keep you satisfied and give you the perfect amount of energy you need for the day. Remember: try to stay away from sugar and avoid eating 2-3 hours before bedtime. And don’t forget to drink water throughout the day—keep track of how much you intake with this nifty smart water bottle:
Ditch books that don’t provide wisdom or inspire growth. We’re huge fans of Poppy Jamie, and her book Happy Not Perfect adds to the list of reasons why we stan. This book will help you with acceptance as well as aid in controlling your thoughts and not letting them control you. Self-help books are always a good go-to to keep you more motivated and self-aware. Here are some of our favorites right now:
Say no to unsettling murder podcasts because it won’t make you feel your greatest, and say yes to frequencies that will uplift you. We’re also fans of motivational podcasts that make us feel like the best version of ourselves. Motivational speaker, Lisa Nichols, will reframe the way you see life. She touches on the subject of abundance and how to obtain it to live a fruitful life and much more. Turn off the depressing, sad love songs and instead listen to a playlist that has good vibes only. If you want to reset your mind, this study shows the positive impact music therapy has on your mood.
Say goodbye to negative TV. If you have trouble sleeping at night or have been experiencing stress, get into something lighthearted. If you want to change the way you feel, opt for a comedy show. Oh, and avoid the news late at night or first thing in the morning.
Don’t be hesitant to press unfollow. Take an inventory of who you follow on social media platforms. Remove the toxic stuff. So this means unfollowing negative or gossipy accounts on social media. Replace them with positive ones! Start following places you want to visit, feel-good news accounts such as @tanksgoodnews, stuff that makes you have faith in humanity, and accounts that have great quotes, because what you see you will start to think about, and then begin to believe. What we should all accept.
