In my last article, I posted about how important it is for all of us to replace our plastic water bottles with reusable bottles. So under the same umbrella, I want to share eco-friendly options for all my avid coffee drinkers. I know it is the fuel a lot of Poosh readers need to start the day, and I want to be sure you guys know your options.
Sixteen billion disposable coffee cups are used each year. If you’re buying a disposable cup every day, this creates about 23 pounds of waste per year. These cups are coated with plastic to laminate and waterproof the inside, and they all come with plastic lids. Because of the paper-plastic combination of these cups, not all recycling centers are equipped for this hybrid. So the majority of disposable coffee cups don’t end up being recycled.
If you must have your coffee (or tea) before you can function as a human being, and you want to live a low-waste lifestyle, a reusable coffee cup should be your first step.
