Keeping an eye on our glucose levels isn’t just about weight management, though it’s a huge part of it. When we allow our blood sugar to spike or crash, we can get intense cravings and hunger pangs caused by an imbalance of hormones, leading us to eat what and when we don’t need to. Jessie Inchauspé, otherwise known as the Glucose Goddess and author of Glucose Revolution, has a simple little hack to keep your body’s glucose in check before eating—apple cider vinegar. Read on to learn her recipes on how to help the natural medicine go down.
Inchauspé’s hot recipe is like a hug on a chilly morning, or a cozy aperitif before dinner. Simply stir in one tablespoon of ACV to a cup of hot cinnamon tea. Cinnamon is loaded with antioxidants, is anti-inflammatory, can improve insulin sensitivity, and helps lower blood sugar levels, so this piping-hot mug is a double-duty cocktail.
Place a wedge of lemon, some ginger root, a tablespoon of ACV, and a pinch of monk fruit for sweetness into a teapot of hot water and let simmer, covered, for about 20 minutes. Everything will be perfectly infused, comforting, and refreshing before breakfast, or in the afternoon before dinner.
In a glass of water, mix a pinch of salt, one teaspoon of liquid aminos, and one tablespoon of ACV and have a salty sip, if a sweet or herbal drink isn’t what your palate needs.
Fill a cup halfway with ice. Add a couple of slices of lemon, lime, and grapefruit, pressing down to extract some of the juice and oils from the skin, but not all of it so that it can infuse rather than take over. Add one tablespoon of ACV, and fill the rest of the way with your favorite sparkling water for a pre-meal mocktail that feels celebratory.
Fill a glass with lots of ice, the juice of a couple of limes, and lots of mint leaves, softly muddled. Add one tablespoon of ACV, top with sparkling water, and add a few drops of stevia to taste. Hard to believe there’s no rum in this one.
If you don’t have time to make one of these DIY beverages, you can go the easier route with Acid League’s ACV tonics. This taster set features one bottle each of Coffee Chaga Maple, Passion Fruit Oolong, and Vanilla Mānuka Spice. All you have to do is dilute one ounce of Living Tonic with eight ounces of hot, cold, still, or sparkling water. You can even add it to your smoothies or tea depending on what you’re in the mood for.
