Things guaranteed to catch our attention: workouts that are effective but require minimal effort, every time a new Poosh product drops, and when someone with really good skin shares intel on their skincare routine. So when Kourt sent us a DM convo between her and Nicole Williams that detailed Nicole’s trick for youthful skin, we were all ears (er—eyes?). Thankfully, it turned out to be something that’s easy to add into our own routines: the designer and founder of Nia Lynn uses a facial steamer with a couple of drops of lemon essential oil to help promote a healthy glow.
Facial steaming is pretty much exactly what it sounds like, and has a host of benefits. Three of the major ones include:
Increases circulation to the face, which helps skin get the nutrients it needs to produce collagen.
Makes skin more permeable, so skincare products can really get in there and do their job.
Helps loosen the grime that gets trapped in pores.
Adding a tiny amount of essential oil can enhance the experience. “I use a couple of drops of lemon essential oil,” Nicole told Kourt. “It really helps tighten and brighten, and it smells heavenly.” She added that she sometimes uses lavender essential oil instead of lemon. Lavender is known for its stress-relieving properties.
Here’s how we’re adding facial steaming into our skincare routines.
Kourt loves oil cleansing—try it with Living Libations Best Skin Ever Sea Buckthorn Oil, which gently cleanses skin without drying it out. (Here’s a step-by-step on oil cleansing, in case you need a refresher.)

The Vanity Planet Senia Facial Steamer was just added to our shop in an exclusive-to-Poosh black colorway. It has six different settings and a basket for essential oils, making it easy to create a custom experience.
Essential oils are super potent, so it’s important to only use a couple drops and only add them to the essential oil basket, not directly in the water tank. (And those of us with sensitive or inflammatory skin should probably skip adding essential oils altogether.)
After steaming, rinse with lukewarm water and gently pat dry.
