Cue the comfy pajamas and hot cocoa (or matcha lattes if that’s more your speed), because it’s that time of the year to rewatch your favorite holiday films. Turn on the fireplace, gather your family (or friends) together, and enjoy some quality time with a festive movie night in. To save time scrolling through Netflix and deciding what to view, we’re getting the (snow)ball rolling by sharing the top seasonal movies we love to watch every December. Consider this your Poosh-approved holiday movie guide below.
Kourtney Kardashian:
The Santa Clause
“I love that it explains the process and the unanswered questions about Santa and the North Pole.”
The Nightmare Before Christmas
“Since The Holiday is already taken on our list, my second pick is The Nightmare Before Christmas. I watch it from Halloween through Christmas—I never get sick of it.”
Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer
“I watch this every year. It’s so nostalgic and reminds me of my childhood.”
Sarah Howard:
Love Actually
“I’m a serious anglophile, plus I’m a true fan of the romantic comedy and love a happy ending, so this movie hits me in all the right cozy, comfy, holiday spots. I watch it every year: it puts me in a good mood and makes me feel like the world is a happy, loving place—which is just the mindset I want to go into the new year!”
Bridget Jones’s Diary
“Would this be considered a holiday movie? I think so, considering it opens on a holiday party with Darcy’s terribly tragic holiday sweater. Again, a romantic comedy based in London … it gives me all of the feels. And who doesn’t love Mark Darcy’s epic line: ‘I like you just as you are.’ SIGH. I’ll have Darcy for Christmas, please.”
Michelle Scanga:
The Holiday
“I’m a sucker for a romantic comedy and love how the movie shows ways to navigate the holiday season when you’re feeling lonely and gives a little hope for those living their best single life during this time of year.”
“Don’t judge me, but I also watch way too many holiday Hallmark movies when I’m back at home with my mom. They’re all so cheesy, but it’s our little tradition and I love it. Tbh, I can’t even name a favorite because they all blur together since they pretty much have the same plot: character goes home, character falls in love with hometown heartthrob, and character lives happily ever after.”
Samantha Hyatt:
The Family Stone
“I love this movie because even though it is so sad, it feels warm and fuzzy for me, watching how another big family spends their holiday together. Even after the sadness in the movie, I love that a year later, the movie shows that everyone is OK.”
Home Alone
“Such a classic film that never gets old. I love watching this movie with my kids, and even three decades later (WOW), I laugh and cry every time.”
Brittney Mead:
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
“I love watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire during the holidays. I know this might not be an obvious pick, but Hogwarts all decorated, the Yule Ball, and Hermione shutting it down in that dress is pure magic—literally!”
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
“The holidays also wouldn’t be complete without How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It’s a classic holiday movie for me. I’ve watched it four times already in the last two weeks. Baby Grinch is adorable, and Jim Carrey’s expressions are so good.”
