It’s been a minute since we posted our Wellness Wednesday series, but we wanted to bring it back with a special guest and beauty guru. If you haven’t already heard of the brand Live Tinted, it’s known for its multipurpose huesticks, which became a viral sensation when the founder, Deepica Mutyala, posted a video showing her red lipstick hack. Since then she’s created a cult following with her clean, vegan, and always inclusive beauty line.
We caught up with the inspiring founder to learn more about what self-care means to her and for a peek inside the rituals that bring her peace and how she keeps a work-life balance.
“Wellness for me is really about doing things for myself. I used to think that made me selfish, but now I’m finally at a place where I realize it’s a life necessity. I have to make these parts of my week a priority. If I don’t do them, it impacts the rest of my week, and I’m recognizing the importance of creating a routine in my life to preserve my energy and truly give my all in all aspects of my life—professional and personal.”
Walk us through what a typical self-care day looks like for you:
“Disconnect from my phone. I try to take one day a week, which is typically my Saturday, to just spend time live with the people around me and not think about email or social media.
A relaxing tea with honey—usually tea drops. I love them. I have vocal nodule issues but never take the time during the week to heal them, so on my self-care day, I try to make that a priority.
Sometimes my self-care and errands feel like one in one. Even something as simple as getting my nails and brows done helps me feel more calm and relaxed for the week ahead.
I never used to watch movies or TV (felt like a waste of time), but now I realize that’s kind of exactly what I should be doing on my chill-out days. Now, I’m a steaming addict.
Massages have become an essential part of my life. I stopped feeling guilty for it. With all the travel I do, my neck and shoulders are always tense, but I don’t do the light Swedish massages. I need deep tissue or sports massages!
Going on a walk and just taking the time to breathe—my workouts during the week are more about being efficient, but on my self-care day, it’s really more about soaking in my surroundings and just zenning out.
I recently have fallen in love with baths including essential oils, a glass of wine, and lighting a nice candle. It’s become my new fave weekend evening activity. Does this make me old?”
