You’re ready to get it on and more importantly get off … and then your body has other plans for you, making it a little harder to get things going. Ya, you’re dry. Some more often than others, but it’s a common “problem” in the bedroom. Frequent vaginal dryness can be a sign of a larger complication, so be sure to check with your doctor if this is something you notice on the regular.
If it’s something that happens here and there, like we said, that’s common and there are ways to increase lubrication in the heat of the moment and prior to your sexy evening. So without further ado … below we’re sharing hacks that help the Poosh team keep things sliding during sex.
• Stay hydrated, especially if you’ve had a glass of wine or a cocktail before things get steamy. Literally, chug a glass of water an hour or so prior to give the liquid time to digest and you won’t hear the water moving around in your belly while you’re moving in bed. But alcohol can definitely dry you out, so be sure to double up on the H2O.
• Try a clean lube for added moisture. Here’s our list of Poosh-approved lubricants. Some people also like to use coconut oil, but that’s a personal preference. We suggest avoiding an oil-based lube to be safe given it can break condemns.
• Do the dirty talk. It might feel uncomfortable your first time, but once you get in the groove, just say it all. Whatever comes to mind and turns you on. It’ll intensify the moment and get both parties horned up and wet.
• Have fun with foreplay and make it last as long as you can. Whether it’s a long makeout session while your clothes are still on or, if you’re into things on the rough side, try biting each other right around the hip area. Add a few licks while you’re biting to keep it sexy. Repeat: only do this if you and your partner are both comfortable with it.
• Use a toy. Let your partner watch you play with yourself while using a vibrator. Not only will it help lubricate things for you, but it will also majorly turn your partner on. Once things are slippery, let your partner slide in.
• Practice pelvic floor exercises. One common symptom of vaginal dryness is painful intercourse, which can also stem from other issues, including pelvic floor problems. Try doing these moves weekly for more enjoyable (and juicier) sex.
• Eat more omega-3 fatty acids. As nutritionist Cara Clark shared in her list of foods to increase your sex drive, “Walnuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. These healthy fats are also a great boost to the good dopamine and arginine, which is an essential amino acid that produces more nitric oxide. The release of nitric oxide relaxes blood vessels and increases circulation.”
