I’ve never really thought twice about doing any sort of special thing to the skin on or around my vulva. Lather, rinse, call it a day is my typical routine. Maybe a wax or trim every now and then to keep the bikini region cleaned up, er—rather, non-distracting (not necessary of course, but one’s own personal discretion).
When it comes to a “me” night or a total, product-driven self-care session, it’s always been a deluxe facial. Maybe a steam, a sonic spatula session, followed by exfoliation and mega moisture.
Never have I ever considered masking my secret garden, my center of all life, my little dew drop.
But if you know me, you know I love a self-care moment. And praise Jah, do I love a ritual.
When unwinding from a long work day (in which I can become rather tightly wound), a series of methodical, self-massaging, nourishing steps gives me a sense of control.
And while I’m not typically totally bare down there, I do tend to like things tidy and trimmed for, well, crucial personal sensitivity reasons. Heh-heh. Why not pamper that exposed area with a little TLC? Let’s face it, it’s more for me than any partner. But I’m sure they don’t mind.
A lot of vulva care products are super beneficial for those going through menopause or other hormonal changes that can leave the skin down there dry and irritated. However, anyone can treat their nether regions to a little special love and refreshment. It’s a delicate area that deserves delicate, thoughtful ingredients, so it’s important we don’t go slathering any old skin care products down there.
I tried Fig Femme’s Refresh Daily Wash, Revive Hydrating Mist, and Restore Mask for a gorgeous line-up of sexual wellness pampering. Here are my thoughts:
Refresh Daily Wash
This foam pump makes a super gentle lather, so no scrubbing is necessary to achieve a satisfying bubble. It’s not super dense or heavy, so it rinses away clean—perfect for soothing post-wax or during/after a shave.
Other soaps can be too aggressive for our delicate pH down there, and no one wants to run the risk of throwing off their natural balance (hello, UTI’s for me, or yeast infections for those prone to them), not to mention that an unbalanced pH can even create a not-so-fresh smell down there.
Yeah, I’ll stick with gentle and pH balanced, please and thanks.
Revive Hydrating Mist
The hydrating mist is a very similar concept to a face mist…but for your punani. It’s light, it gives the skin moisture, and it feels good. Not to mention, it’s perfect for a midday refresher if you’re running around, it’s hot out, or you’re getting ready to meet a lover. Lucky you.
It’s also ideal for pH balance and supports the skin microbiome with soothing botanical extracts that are female hormone friendly—like raspberry leaf.
I was most excited to try the mask, because I’m a huge fan of sheet masks in general. This one is formulated with probiotic-rich Lactobacillus ferment that reduces irritation, redness, and discomfort from sex or anything else. It lightly exfoliates with AHA’s and hydrates the skin, improving the texture while preventing ingrown hairs. Also there is pineapple extract. Need I say more? (wink)
If you’re a vagina-owner who loves self care, sexual wellness, and likes to lightly lady-scape, I highly recommend this trio for maintenance and pampering. Whether it’s just for you or someone special, you’ll be delighted either way.
