You’ve scored the interview, now on to the pre-meeting prep, which includes giving yourself a pep talk, planning your outfit, and knowing the right questions to ask during your in-person meeting or phoner. To ease this portion of planning, we chatted with Michal Goldvaser, Senior Recruiter at The Workshop LA, to share her expert advice. Read on to learn (and take a mental note of) wise questions to ask during the hiring process with a potential new employer.
“Why is this job open?
You always want to know if the job has high turnover, it’s a new position, someone got promoted, or if it’s as simple as someone moved on to another company. You find out a lot about the company with this answer.
What do you think makes someone successful in this position?
Asking this shows that you care to know how you can be an asset to the business.
How would you describe the company culture?
People always want to know if it’s a fun place to work with motivating leadership … or not.
In an ideal world, how soon would you like to have someone start?
This question will help you understand if they want to hire ASAP or if they just started the search. It can help you gauge telling them where you are in your interview process. They might say they just started interviewing, and you might be in last rounds with another brand. Transparency is key when interviewing.”
