Sweet Potato Au Gratin, But Make It Melty

This is the kind of dish that quietly steals the show. Warm, melty sweet potatoes bathed in a lightly spiced orange-maple glaze, and finished with a buttery, caramelized edge. It’s not fussy. It’s not overly sweet. And it somehow works just as well for a weeknight as it does on a holiday table. Created by Chef K, this recipe proves that when you let simple ingredients do their thing, the result feels both grounding and elevated…the sweet spot we’re always chasing.

Melting Sweet Potato Au Gratin

Ingredients

• 1 large sweet potato, peeled and cut into 1-inch thick rounds
• ¼ cup butter
• ½ cup pure maple syrup
• ½ cup fresh orange juice
• 2 strips of orange peel
• 1 cup water
• ½ tsp cinnamon
• 1 tbsp vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Peel and slice the sweet potato into 1-inch thick rounds.
2. Heat a large pan over medium heat. Add the butter and sweet potato slices.
3. Cook for 6–8 minutes, until the bottoms are golden and caramelized. Flip and cook the other side for another 5 minutes.
4. Reduce the heat to low. Add the orange juice, water, maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla, and orange peels.
5. Cover with a lid and cook for about 20 minutes, turning once, until the sweet potatoes are fork-tender and deeply caramelized.
6. Remove from heat. Plate the sweet potatoes and drizzle generously with the reduced sauce from the pan.
7. Serve warm, and devour!
