5 SUPPLEMENTS That Have Helped my Skin

Hello, me again, with another piece on my skincare journey. Last time I shared how I naturally got rid of my perioral dermatitis (for now—we don’t want to jinx it, people!). Since I’ve done a fair amount of trial and error with what works and doesn’t work for my skin, I wanted to do a little write-up on my experience with adding different supplements into my everyday skincare routine.

First a disclaimer, I do take spironolactone (a low dose) pretty much every weekday (spironolactone is used to treat hormonal acne as it helps to balance androgen hormones). Sure I forget or spread my prescription out if my skin is treating me well and not acting up, but for the most part I take this prescription Monday through Friday. If you’re dealing with hormonal acne, it’s a game-changer, just check with your doctor or dermatologist to see if it’s a fit for you.

Aside from that, these are the five supplements that have made a noticeable difference in the overall appearance of my skin.

Neem
To keep my PD under control …

I am religious about taking two neem supplements every morning to keep my PD under control. It’s an Ayurvedic herb for skin health that naturally helps with fighting bacteria and reducing redness. I can’t recommend these supplements enough. Big-time game-changer for me! I have a subscription set up on Amazon so I don’t have to think twice about remembering to restock.

Vitamin C
To keep my skin bright …

Collagen

I change up the collagen I take from time to time (I lived for our Vital Proteins Collagen collabs), but now I’m currently using this elixir. As you know, collagen helps to improve your skin’s elasticity. It’s the queen bee in the world of anti-aging supplements since it plumps your skin, resulting in fewer fine lines and wrinkles.

Biotin
To keep my skin healthy …

I mainly take these gummies for my hair and nails, but biotin also contributes to overall skin health since it produces fatty acids that nourish skin. It’s another way to help keep my complexion clear, plus the jelly bean vitamins taste like candy.

Zinc
To keep my skin clear …

Zinc is great for immune function, but I’ve also seen a difference in my skin (healthier glow, less redness, inflammation, etc.) when I started taking this, too. Plus, studies show that taking zinc orally can improve certain types of acne and rosacea.
