You’ve got your summer essentials for a pool or beach day, now it’s on to your closet. To properly update your warm-weather wardrobe, we tapped Kourt’s stylist, Dani Michelle, to share the top five trends to try this season.
Hint: one of the most polarizing pant styles from the early ’00s is making a hard comeback. Whether you love or loathe it, celebs like Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid are already supporting this throwback style. When it comes to accessories, think of summer camp and craft class, thanks to this season’s must-have jewelry item.
See which trends made the list and give your summer style a fresh start by adding these pieces to your outfit rotation. Shop the five fashion items Dani highly recommends below.
Remember back in the day when Frankie B jeans were all the rage? Yes, the ones where the butt crack and tramp stamp were on full display. Dani is here to confirm this look is back: “We know it was ‘how low can you go’ in Y2K, and then the trend changed to a high-waist denim that accentuated the small waist. Now we’re seeing the low hip-baring denim make its way back in our lives,” she shares. She notes that celebs like Paris Hilton and Christina Aguilera were the queens of this style back in the day, and now Bella Hadid and Emrata (to name a couple of A-listers) are bringing it back.
If you’re a fan of the borrowed-from-the-boys aesthetic, then this trend will be right up your alley. “I’ve always been into menswear for women. I love nothing more than a men’s dress shirt styled on a woman, but now vests are making a full transition into our wardrobes,” Dani explains. Kendall and Kourt have already approved this look as they both recently wore stylish vests.
On to footwear—what will be the “it” shoe style of the summer? Modern Mary Janes is the answer. “Something that was once slightly innocent and girly is now something punk and trendy,” Dani shares. She suggests pairing them with a little sundress or a sock for some added edge. You can also style them with your favorite denim shorts and an oversized button-down for a relaxed yet cool vibe.
Cue the craft day because summer’s hottest jewelry trend will give you major nostalgia and send you right back to your childhood summer camp. Dani agrees, “Something as simple as the friendship bracelets we used to make when we were younger is storming the IG world and every cool girl’s neck. From cell phone beads to necklaces, it’s all I’m seeing!”
If you don’t want to splurge on a pre-made one, you can easily have a DIY afternoon and create your own. Poosh editor, Michelle Scanga, just made the coolest choker and phone strap with her niece while she was home. This also makes for a fun and bonding summer experience, and you’ll have one that’s uniquely you.
Meet the newest way to wear loungewear outside of the house. “We used to collect them for sleepwear from our boyfriends or the mall, but now brands are coming out with boxers and matching bras and button-downs for the summer. From gingham to stripes, they are perfect for a comfortable and stylish summer,” Dani raves. We agree, we’re all for a trend that’s easy to throw on yet will still make you look put together.
