We could all use a little more structure in our lives, right? A workout routine, a consistent bedtime, beautifully formed H2O molecules … That’s right, there is such a thing as structured water, and it’s not what comes out of your tap. We’ll explain.
Essentially, structured water is water that is in its natural spring state. Have you ever tasted fresh water from a spring, glacial melt, natural flowing river, or mountain stream and it had a smooth, silky feel in the mouth and its taste was almost sweet? That is structured water, and its molecules are beautifully formed hexagonal configurations that look like perfect little snowflakes—often called hexagonal water, or magnetized water. Water molecules that are not perfect crystalline formations are known as unstructured, or chaotic, water.
Structured water is formed in nature from endless swirls and tumbles over smooth rocks and stones, creating vortexes that magnetize the water, pulling the components of each molecule into a symmetrical shape. But we can also create structured water from modern devices meant to magnetize water molecules by swirling—or vortexing—it.

A portable option that holds 1.5 liters of water.
We know this is out of most people’s budget (including ours), but it sure is pretty.
So what? We can’t see the molecules save for under a microscope, so do we really care how lovely our water molecules are? Structured water is a lot more than just a pretty microscopic shape or a clean, sweet taste. It is said to have a slew of beauty and wellness benefits that have hydration aficionados swearing by it as a biohacking modality, including increased energy, improved memory and cognition, weight loss and management, restful sleep, boosted immunity, and overall detoxification.
The reason these benefits are believed to be true is partly because structured water, by nature, is completely free of environmental toxins, pollutants, chemicals, or carcinogens. Science calls it antioxidant water, and The International Journal of Cell Biology states that it has a stimulated effect on plant growth. This same study indicates that consuming structured water increased the activity of macrophage white blood cells that detox and protect the body, while suppressing the viability of cancer cells.
As soon as water becomes still for too long, or is stripped of all its mineral content through reverse osmosis or distillation or becomes contaminated, it is no longer structured water. Structured water is not easy to maintain, so essentially all of the water we consume daily is chaotic water, unless we have access to a running spring of fresh water or utilize a water vortex machine to restore structure to the water molecules.
Chaotic drinking water, aka unstructured water that has been purified, is not harmful and shouldn’t be avoided. It’s essential to hydrate, and adding electrolytes and minerals to your drinking water makes it even more beneficial! While chaotic water does not supercharge your cells the way that structured water is thought to do, we should still be consuming 2-4 liters per day to stay hydrated and to assist with detoxification.
