Darkness, take me away.*
That’s how I feel when it’s time to go to bed. I need complete darkness, or I won’t fall asleep for hours.
So, as you can imagine, a sleep mask is a crucial part of my nighttime routine.
I have tried so many different ones over the years—silk masks, weighted masks, masks with headphones in them. I never really preferred one over another, so I would just cycle through them. It didn’t really matter which mask I was wearing, as long as I had a clean one to block out the light.
That is, until I was absolutely ruined for other masks by the Slip Silk’s Contour Lovely Lashes Sleep Mask.
I’m a big fan of this brand’s silk pillowcases, so I knew the mask was going to be soft and comfy. I just didn’t realize how much better it would be than all the other masks I have.

Extra padding around the eyes adds a pillow-y component that is so luxurious. It also keeps the mask from directly touching your eyelids or lashes. In fact, I can fully open my eyes while wearing the mask. I can’t see anything, obvs, but it’s really nice to not feel like my eyelids are taped shut.
And even though it was designed with lash extensions in mind, it works just as well for those of us without them. Other masks smashed my eyelashes to the point that they started pointing toward my nose. Not even mascara could wrangle them into place. Actually, mascara somehow made them look worse—shorter and stumpier and growing the wrong way.
But because of the extra eyeball room, this mask doesn’t smoosh my lashes, and they no longer look wonky. (Yeehaw!)
Two things I would note:
- A little light sometimes peeks through around the nose, but a simple readjustment fixes that (a pretty common problem with eye masks in general). I toss and turn a lot, which moves the mask around.
- The strap is not adjustable. This hasn’t been an issue for me, and I have a pretty average-sized head.
IMHO, both of these things are negligible compared to how plush and eyelash-friendly this mask is—as evidenced by the fact that it’s now the exclusive sleep mask in my bedtime routine.
