DIY waxing can be a…hairy situation (sorry, had to), whether you’re doing your eyebrows or your nether regions.
That said, we’re of the opinion that the butthole is one of the most—if not the most—intimidating places to try to wax by yourself. Yep, even though it tends to hurt less than waxing the pubic area.
Consider this totally hypothetical and definitely not based at all on a Pooshie’s own adventures in butthole grooming…
You’re spread eagle in front of a full-length mirror, a wax strip finally smoothed between your cheeks after contorting yourself to get the right angle, but you can’t bring yourself to rip off the band-aid (so to speak). It’s an It Happened to Me in the making.

Obvs, it is not necessary to wax your butthole. Hair is normal! Yep, even the fluff between your cheeks. But (ha!) if you want a smooth, hairless butthole, that’s great too. With a bit of finessing, it can even be done at home.
Here are the key things to keep in mind when de-fuzzing your peach at home:
– Make sure the wax you get is formulated for Brazilian waxes, aka designed to remove hair from sensitive areas.
– Apply the wax in the direction the hair grows—the same as waxing other parts of your body. Hold your skin taut, and rip off the wax by quickly pulling it in the opposite direction of the hair.
P.S.: The hair in your butt can grow in more than one direction, so you may have to apply the wax in a couple of different ways.
Which brings us to this third tip:
– Make sure you have a good view so you can see what you’re doing. As previously mentioned, this will probably take some contorting and trial and error.
– Don’t forget after care. It’s a good idea to skip thongs and tight pants for a day or so after waxing. These can increase the chances of irritation and folliculitis (two things we definitely don’t want—well, anywhere—but especially not between our cheeks). Also, wash the area with a gentle soap.
