Energy work is a mysterious thing.
If you haven’t experienced it, you may be skeptical. If you have (an open mind and heart are prerequisites), then you know the lighter, floating feeling that follows for days, weeks, or even months after. Sometimes a lifetime of change stems from a single session, but it usually takes a bit of consistent work.
For those of us who are still a little foggy on what energy healing, aka Reiki, entails, Reiki Healer, Akashic Records Reader, and Intuitive Guide for ALTYR, Yisbel Zamora, breaks it down.
“Everything in life is energy. WE are energy, from the most basic matter that constantly moves and generates vibrations to our thoughts and emotions. Reiki, which is a form of energy healing, seeks to restore balance and harmony within the body and energy fields.
“Every experience we encounter can leave an energetic impression on our biofield, and because the body has a natural ability to heal itself, we are able to brush most things off. But often, too much of the same stimulus—like everyday stress or traumatic events—can alter our natural way of being. We build defenses to adapt to our environment, getting further away from our purest expression, and our unique frequency gets distorted. Energy work seeks to remove that disruption in your energy and move you closer to re-alignment.”
To experience this in person, a skilled practitioner comes to your sacred space (ALTYR practitioners can travel to you, if you wish) or has you come to a cleansed, healing space at one of their locations. The healer’s presence is soothing, protective, and tangible.
“Reiki practitioners channel higher vibrational energy through their crown chakra. We call this Universal Life Force Energy. It flows through our bodies and out of our hands into the client’s energy body/field. This stream of pure energy replaces negative or lower vibrational energies and re-calibrates overactive/underachieving energy centers in the body or chakras, restoring the client’s energy field to its natural harmonious state. By returning the body to its natural resonance, we allow it space to start healing itself.”
That checks out. But what is harder to grasp is that healing work can be done remotely. We don’t have to be in the physical presence of the Reiki practitioner to experience profound results. Yisbel can explain:
“Reiki healing is not confined by time or space and can be sent to anyone, anywhere, at any time. Once the intention is set and the client is willing to receive it, the Reiki energy flows through the naturally existing energy currents to the intended receiver in the same way energy flows through a phone or Wi-Fi signal. The magic lies in the intent to send and the intent to receive.”
That’s part of the recipients prereq’s of an open mind and open heart. If we are mentally blocking incoming intention and energy, it’s like we’ve retracted our antenna to receive. But just how much can we really expect from a Zoom session?
“The results for in-person or remote are exactly the same. We’ve seen all kinds of improvements, from changes in mental and emotional well-being to feeling a better sense of purpose to seeing physical changes and improvements in health. Because Reiki helps to deeply relax the body, the body is able to produce more dopamine and serotonin, which make your immune system stronger.”
This works best when done with some consistency, because life constantly bombards us with disruptive energies, stress, negative thinking, and emotional upset.
“These things are unavoidable,” Yisbel explains. It’s true—we are not broken.
“The issue is we don’t give our bodies the resources to strip away the buildup of these lower vibrational energies. Energy work peels back the layers and calluses we build up that pull us away from our natural vibration. If you remove those layers more frequently before they build back up again, your body’s energy field begins to respond to those lower energies in a different way. Your internal world begins to change and ultimately, so does your external.”
“You need nothing other than to be open and willing to let go. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but allowing yourself to be honest and vulnerable is no easy task, which is why it’s so important to find a trusted Reiki practitioner.
“This exchange of energy can be an intimate process and the more you allow yourself to be honest and vulnerable, the deeper the healing. That can only happen if your practitioner first makes you feel safe and cared for. Our ability to create that place of connection and safety is what sets our practitioners apart.”
