Adulting: the recipe edition. Now more than ever we’re spending extra time cooking, and if you’re like us, most likely realizing it’s time to upgrade or (finally) purchase key kitchen essentials (here’s our full list of household items every adult should eventually own). But back to the kitchen talk—we thought it’d be helpful to share 10 recipes every 20-something and older should be able to whip up in their home. Luckily they are all rather easy, so consider this a cooking guide to keep in your back pocket when you’re not sure what to make for your next meal. Learn the 10 recipes every adult should know below.
A breakfast smoothie:
Once you find one you like, keep your refrigerator stocked with the ingredients needed so you don’t even have to think twice about it and can quickly blend everything together and start your morning off right. Try Kourt’s banana shake.
Comforting waffles:
There’s nothing better than waking up on a Sunday morning and making fresh waffles for breakfast. Here are the instructions for vegan, gluten-free waffles.
A quick salad:
Again, once you know the key ingredients for a simple salad that you enjoy, it’ll be like second nature when you’re at the store to pick up the essential items to store in your fridge. Learn how to make Kourt’s Health Nut salad here.
Glazed salmon:
Learn our recipe for manuka-glazed salmon. After you make it once, you’ll be a pro and can even save leftovers for lunch the next day.
Simple side dish:
We suggest roasted sweet potatoes. Sounds intimidating but it really only requires 10 minutes of prep, and then you pop them in the oven until they are nice and toasty. If you have kids, they will even enjoy the sweet-but-savory veggie that’s full of nutrients.
A healthy-ish dessert:
The only chocolate chip cookie recipe you need to know. These bite-size cookies are gluten-and dairy-free and are truly addicting. The recipe calls for peanut butter too, but it’s optional depending on your tastebuds and allergy requirements.
The perfect quesadillas:
Look no further than Kourt’s delicious recipe we just posted. She uses vegan cheese and as of lately sweet potato tortillas. So damn good.
An easy homemade pasta sauce:
Add our vegan pesto sauce to your foolproof recipes. Use it as a pasta sauce or chilled as a dip for your favorite veggies.
Avocado toast:
We’re not talking about your basic avocado toast. Give it some personality by adding the above pesto sauce and chili flakes or an egg cooked to your liking.
A fancy-ish cocktail:
If tequila is your favored liquor, make sure you add our Paloma cocktail to your bartending book. It’s light, refreshing, and most importantly not complicated.
