They say Disney is where dreams come true, and we think they’re right. It’s not just the Mickey-shaped pretzels or tasty churros that make the line wrap around the park. It’s the imagination and endless possibilities that connect Disney lovers of all ages. We know you remember driving your parents crazy by replaying your favorite movies. Wanting to be a full-time princess didn’t just stem out of nowhere.
All kidding aside, we learned a lot from our favorite Disney princesses. Courage from Mulan, adventure from Ariel, perseverance from Tiana, among many other lessons that made us the well-rounded women we are today. All that being said, we still have one lingering question: What are Rapunzel’s haircare secrets?
Although we can’t contact Rapunzel from the movies, we’ve found an even better solution. Meet the real-life Rapunzel, Alena Kravchenko. Alena has only cut her golden locks once and now has hair over six feet long. And today, she is sharing her secrets with us.
“With great desire and an integrated approach, every girl can grow her hair. The main thing is to be patient and not wait for the result,” Alena shares.
Follow the five haircare hacks we learned from the real-life Rapunzel below:
Incorporating a daily scalp massage may seem tedious, but it works wonders in the long run. The technique increases blood flow, which helps nourish the follicles, increasing hair growth. Each session can be done for 10-15 minutes when relaxing.
Wash your hair once a week
Just like the real-life Rapunzel, we love making the most out of wash day for our mane. Alena washes her hair once a week, and during her wash days, she likes to use both professional cosmetic lines and natural products. She follows the shampoo, mask, and balm regimen. Before washing, she uses one of her alternating oils: olive, argan, or coconut. Or, she will use a homemade mask. Lastly, make sure to wash under warm water.
Try to avoid heat at all costs. Alena has never used a hairdryer, and she lets her hair dry naturally. We’re all for the wash-and-go look.
Frequently brush your hair
Although Alena doesn’t comb her hair wet as it can easily be damaged, she still manages to brush her hair two to three times a day. Before she combs, she uses a spray or oil to make combing easier. A tip we learned from her brushing routine is to use good quality wooden products such as a comb with wide teeth. These are great for stroking through long and thick hair.
After cutting her hair once at the age of 5, the real-life Rapunzel continued to grow her hair for the next 30 years. To keep her locks strong and healthy, she makes sure to trim her ends twice a year—a golden step we should all incorporate into our haircare process.
