It’s about to happen: The sexy time we’ve been looking forward to. Our vibrator is fully charged. A sex playlist is grooving in the background. All systems are go … and then our stupid brain decides that it’s a good time to hyperfixate on some anxieties, or worry about how we look, or think about a cacophony of other things that take us out of the moment.
Alas, sex just isn’t as enjoyable when we aren’t present. Here to help is Liz Goldwyn, founder of The Sex Ed, an online community and podcast. She shared a quickie meditation designed to help with exactly this issue. “Ahead of the release of my new book, Sex, Health & Consciousness, I wanted to get The Sex Ed podcast listeners in the zone for fall,” Liz tells us. “This special guided meditation is a Sexy Body Scan designed to get them out of their heads and into their bodies before sex. Of course, that can also be masturbation, solo or partnered; sex doesn’t always have to include penetration or another person!”
The podcast is all about aligning sex, health, and consciousness. “I believe that pleasure is your birthright, and that includes integrating mindfulness into your sex life,” Liz says. She adds that she’s included lots of practical, easy exercises for setting boundaries and intentions, getting in touch with your body, and meditations in her aforementioned new book (out Oct. 25).
