You are what you eat, am I right? If that’s true, then it applies to all areas of your life, even your sexual health. To be honest, I don’t get a ton of feedback from my clients on whether my programs are improving this area of their life, but I can guarantee if I asked, the answer would be yes. I know I have a pretty good track record for helping people conceive. It’s amazing what our bodies can do when we treat them with proper care.
And while there are many factors that can enhance your sex life, like thoughts, aromas, connection, and chemistry, don’t rule out nutrient-rich food. (I’ll get to that in a minute.)
First, in typical Cara fashion, I have to remind you that one good food, one good meal, or even one good day of food isn’t going to drastically change anything, but the commitment to daily changes can impact a lot—even improving your sexual health!
One of my favorite foods for enriching this area of your life is maca powder, which comes from a root plant grown in central Peru. It has a slightly nutty flavor, but goes well in smoothies. It’s a nutrition superfood, but also amazing for emotional health and mood stabilization. Maca is great to enhance your sex drive. Read: heightened libido.
Try this maca smoothie recipe:
Blend the following ingredients:
½ frozen banana
½ cup frozen cherries
Handful of greens
¼ cup cauliflower rice
2 teaspoons maca powder
1 scoop collagen peptides
1 tablespoon flax seeds
6 ounces almond milk
Seeds are another great pre-sex snack. I know you see this a lot in my articles, but if you’re not increasing seeds in your daily diet already, let today’s topic be the one to convince you.
Flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, you name it—seeds are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and rich in antioxidants, and they also contain essential amino acids that support healthy blood flow. This is especially important for men, so take note.
Whip up this quick and delicious treat:
Oatmeal Cookie Energy Bites
Makes about 22 bites
Ingredients:
3⁄4 cup raisins
1⁄4 cup pitted medjool dates
1⁄4 cup natural cashew butter (other nut/seed butters will work)
1⁄4 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
3⁄4 cup plus 3 tablespoons rolled oats, divided
2 tablespoons flax meal
2 tablespoons hemp seeds
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon cardamom
1⁄4 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1⁄4 cup raw almonds
1⁄4 cup raw walnuts
Instructions:
Add all ingredients to the bowl of a food processor, reserving 3 tablespoons of the oats. Pulse until everything is well mixed and somewhat crumbly. Pour the mixture into a medium bowl and add the remaining oats, stirring until well combined. Using a cookie dropper, scoop out a spoonful of the mixture (about 1⁄2 tablespoon) and roll into a ball with your hands. Continue with the remaining mixture. Place the balls in an airtight container and store in the fridge or freezer.
Maintaining a healthy diet and exercise regimen will naturally improve hormonal balance, which also improves sex. There’s so much you can do daily to contribute to a healthy sex life (like these moves to improve your pelvic floor and loving your body, which plays a role in sexual satisfaction), along with adding the two foods I mentioned to your pre-sex routine.
