From his humble beginnings working at a beauty counter in Arizona, Patrick Ta has painted his way to become one of the most influential makeup artists in the industry. With a portfolio that includes Rihanna, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Shay Mitchell, Alessandra Ambrosio, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Chrissy Teigen, and Kourt, of course, it’s hard to find a face in LA that hasn’t been given the Patrick Ta glow up.
Patrick just launched his very own makeup line, Major Glow, inspired by his signature sparkle. Poosh spoke with Patrick on his brand-new line, his makeup muses, and a sneak peek of what’s next.
Congratulations on the launch of Major Glow. Why did you feel like now is the right time to launch this collection?
“I’ve been doing makeup for years and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I finally felt comfortable and stable enough in my career, and I honestly just thought it was time. I felt like I was constantly working with other brands and really pushing them, and I wanted something of my own that I created. Seeing the vision from start to finish, I’m really proud of everything I’ve come out with. I stand by it because it’s all about glow, and I think I’ve become known for luminous skin and glamorous yet wearable makeup.”
Did you find that this Glow line was something missing in the market or was it a product that you always wished you had in your makeup kit?
“There are glow products out there on the market, but what I don’t think had been done is a spray highlighter, the Highlighting Mist. I’ve always had to use two to three highlighters to get the look that I’ve wanted. I’d have to use a powder and a cream to get the right aesthetic. The highlighter I came out with makes the skin look luminous and glossy, super shiny but still wet-looking.”
Your tagline is: “For her, for one, for all.” Is it your hope that this is an inclusive product that anyone could use across genders, age groups, and skin tones?
“Yes, for sure. I feel like makeup is for everyone, and everything that I came out with is very translucent and works for whatever skin tone you are. For him, for her, for all, it’s a product that is very versatile in the way that you can wear it.”
You’ve mentioned that this collection was created as an homage to the women in your life who’ve supported you. Was there anyone specific who inspired the collection?
“I think all of my clients have inspired the collection. When I first moved here it was my goal to work with the Kardashians. The Kardashians have paved the way for so many makeup artists. They gave artists like me a voice in the makeup community because I think they love makeup just as much as artists. They were the first people to start tagging their glam so they kind of gave us that celebrity right in the artist community.”
I love that! So what was the process like in terms of creating the formulas and the packaging?
“When I was developing the product, I went into it not really knowing what I was doing, but I knew I wanted the best of the best. I wanted to keep everything reasonably priced, but there was never a time where the quality of the makeup was sacrificed because of the price. I wanted everything from the components to the packaging to be the best that it could be. I probably went through 10 to 12 versions before coming to the final product.”

I love the names, like “Is She Younger Than Me?” Where did the inspiration for the names come from?
“I wanted the packaging to be super luxe, but I wanted to bring personality into the brand through the names. I named it after some of my sayings that come up when I’m really excited.
Highlighter is something that you add as a final step to give you that extra pop and catch someone’s eye. So my white pearl is “Look at Her,” and my pink pearl is “We Love Her,” and my gold pearl is “We Need Her.”
For the lip glosses, music is something we always joke about. If a song from the ’70s or ’80s comes on, I’ll always joke like: “I’ve never heard that song before. I’m just so young.” My peach shade is a really fun, young color. I wanted to name it “Is She Younger Than Me?” because from the packaging, you might think that you wouldn’t be able to wear it. But it’s really wearable because everything is very translucent.”
I love how there’s that injection of lighthearted energy that makes it fun to use and keep on your shelf. Do you have a favorite product from the line?
“I really, really love my highlighting mist because it just gives you that glow. When the reflective particles fall onto the skin it all just melts and there’s no harsh lines.”
Totally. My last question is: What’s next?
“I definitely think that I’m going to release more products with these little mini collections, and they’re all going to have themes. I want these products to be staples in someone’s makeup kit. I don’t want them to be one-time drops and then people never use them again. The way I designed my products is they’re something you always need in your kit.”
