Let us know if one of these scenarios sounds familiar. You brush your hair (morning and night) only to see a gob of your locks trapped in your comb. Thinning. You constantly find loose strands all over your couch/bed/pillow. Fallout. You can’t tame flyaways and rogue wispies. Breakage. Cue TikTok’s “into the thick of it, ugh!” We’re ~blanking~ sick of it, too.
So what do we do? Invest in a proper haircare routine. While it may add a bit of time to our self-care regimen, if we stick to it, it’s worth every minute and penny.
Ahead we’re handling step one in our new mane mindset by sharing a solid lineup of products, tips, and treatments to incorporate starting now. We even tapped celebrity hairstylist, Nicole Leal, who is responsible for Rebel Wilson’s shiny locks.
Read on for her expert insight plus advice from the Poosh team for optimal health and growth from the inside out.
Daily Collagen and Biotin
“Environmental stressors can really deplete our hair, so taking a supplement is necessary for maintaining healthy growth.” We can add this vegan-friendly collagen elixir to our morning glass of water and this supercharged glow powder that’s packed with biotin to our afternoon smoothie—no excuses.
Weekly Scalp Serum and Detox
“We forget that our scalp is an extension of our skin and is the root of our hair. Maintaining a clean scalp status promotes overall stronger strands. I always keep a scalp serum on hand in the salon to share with clients.”
Daily UV Protection
“R+Co’s Bleu Essential Hair Tonic is vegan, cruelty-free, and offers major UV protection. The light mist not only nourishes our locks but adds shine, and shiny hair is the ultimate indicator of a healthy mane.”
Weekly DIY Treatment (rotate between these two)
1. Rice Water Soak
Many Eastern countries have used the all-natural recipe for years, reaping its healing and nourishing perks. Here are the moisturizing and strengthening benefits of the minerals and vitamins in rice water, and below are instructions on how to do the hair-enhancing treatment at home.
What you’ll need:
1 cup organic rice (any type as long as it’s organic)
Bowl
Water
Instructions:
1. Rinse the uncooked grains and then drain the water.
2. Place the clean rice in a bowl and add 1-1 1/2 cups of water. Let it soak for at least an hour (you can let it sit up to 24 hours).
3. Strain the rice and save the water.
4. Shampoo and rinse your hair.
5. Massage the rice water into your hair and scalp and let it sit for at least 20 minutes (and up to an hour).
6. Rinse.
2. Hydrating Avocado Mask
This avocado treatment is one of Kourt’s OG all-natural hair hacks. The DIY haircare mask only requires four ingredients and 45 minutes of our time. The results? Smoother, shinier locks. Watch the step-by-step video for instructions below.
Daily Scalp Massage
With either your fingers or a proper tool, stroke and massage your roots to stimulate the follicles. This habit is not only therapeutic and can help alleviate minor headaches, but it also promotes new hair growth.
