WHAT EVEN IS A HOBBY IN 2025? The Poosh Team Weighs In

When the Poosh team was asked to share our favorite hobbies, there was a brief silence (followed by laughter).

Our first thought? Do people even have time for hobbies anymore?

Between work, group chats, and nightly doom-scrolling, it can feel like there’s zero room for anything extra. But with summer right around the corner, we’re reclaiming our time and suggesting you do the same.

Here’s the thing: a hobby doesn’t have to be a huge commitment. It’s not about being productive or perfect.

It’s about doing something that brings you joy, whether it’s five minutes before bed or a Sunday afternoon. Think of it as a little moment that’s just for you—a routine, a creative outlet, or simply something that feels fun and good.

Scroll down for a list of hobbies we actually make time for, handpicked by the Poosh team!

Painting

“Painting is how I unwind and reset. I switch between watercolor and acrylics and even picked up yarn painting at Rancho La Puerta. It’s less about the finished product and more about getting into that focused, meditative zone where everything else quiets down for a bit.” — Kristin, CEO

Cooking

“After a nonstop day, cooking has become my favorite way to unwind. It’s grounding and calming—a way to shift gears, be present, and tap into my creativity. Sometimes, I follow a recipe, and other times I just whip something up based on what’s in the fridge.

“My husband and I share a love of food and sourcing quality ingredients, so it often turns into an at-home date night once the baby is asleep, our way of reconnecting. I also love sharing what we make with friends and family, whether it’s a cozy dinner party or a casual night in.” — Jess, Senior Account Executive

Gardening

“Gardening has been on my to-do list for three years now, and I’m finally investing the time. Even building the garden bed was a fun project on its own. I’m officially a Home Depot girl now. There’s something incredibly grounding about watching the herbs and veggies you planted start to grow.

“I love gifting fresh produce to friends and eating things at peak nutritional value. I’ve started with beginner-friendly crops like cilantro and cherry tomatoes for the easiest success rate. Start with leafy greens and herbs, and you’ll quickly get the gardening bug. It’s become such a rewarding hobby.” — Alexa, Associate Content Manager

Pickleball

“Last summer, on a whim, I joined a local pickleball league with a few friends, despite never having played before. It started out as a fun way to connect with my friends and disconnect from my phone, but it quickly turned into something more. As we developed our skills and remained undefeated, my high school sports competitiveness came back in full swing (no pun intended).

“Suddenly, nothing mattered more than our Monday night matches. I’m proud to say we finished the season undefeated and took home the league title. And in the process, I discovered a new favorite hobby.” — Lindsay, Senior Manager, Experiential Marketing

Paddleboarding

“Paddleboarding is something I picked up two summers ago after my friend begged me for weeks, and I’m so glad she did. It took a minute to find my balance, but once I did, I totally fell in love. You queue up your favorite playlist, push off, and instantly settle into your own rhythm. It’s become my favorite solo ritual—peaceful and something I can do entirely at my own pace. Some days I paddle with energy; other days I just float and reset.” — Alix, Senior Brand Manager

Crochet

“My sister got me a crochet kit from Woobles for my birthday a few months ago, and I am obsessed. They make kits for beginners that teach you the basic stitches while creating a little crocheted animal. I had gotten into a bad habit of scrolling on my phone while watching TV, and I noticed it was affecting my stress and my sleep (and my attention span).

“I needed to find something to keep my hands busy, and these kits were the perfect solution. I like that there’s something tangible you’re working toward, and at the end, you’ve actually created something. My favorites are the axolotl, T-rex, and anglerfish.” — Allie, Wellness Editor

Tennis

“Tennis has been a staple in my life since I was a kid. Every summer, I look forward to the warm weather and a quick match or two to start my day. Not only does it provide a great workout, it helps to stimulate your mind and get the energy flowing.” — Matt, Account Executive

Learning New Languages

“Learning another language has introduced me to new countries, new people, and new artists and authors. While full immersion makes the journey easier, what I love about language acquisition is that it can be done from anywhere and on your terms: listen to a podcast during your workout or read during your lunch break. And for my jet-setting girlies, there’s no better way to avoid tacky tourist traps than being familiar with the local language.” — William, Graphic Designer, Experiential and Digital

Ocean Cold Plunge

“Last May, my friend Mary Claire convinced me to join her daily cold plunge into 40-degree Lake Michigan—three dunks, no excuses. I was frozen, but felt amazing after! As someone who swears by movement as nature’s antidepressant, this felt like a major upgrade. Fast forward to now: between beach days on the California coast and visits home to New York, cold plunges have become my favorite summer ritual. It’s the ultimate reset—energizing in the morning, grounding in the evening, and leaves my skin glowing.” – Catherine, Director of Sales

Acting

What Even Is a Hobby in 2025? The Poosh Team Weighs In

“I’ve loved acting since I was a kid, but I fell head over heels for it as an adult. I’ve been taking weekly classes at Anthony Meindl’s Actor Workshop for the past seven years (even through the pandemic, when we took classes over Zoom). Acting constantly challenges me to tap into my emotions (especially the messy ones), confront my insecurities, and better understand myself. It’s the best form of play— reconnecting you to your imagination, your inner child, and the parts of yourself you usually keep buttoned up. Acting has become so much more than a hobby for me. It’s my creative outlet, my therapy, and honestly, the best reminder to stop taking myself so seriously.” — Liz, Director of Business Dev and Strategy

Mat Pilates

What Even Is a Hobby in 2025? The Poosh Team Weighs In

“This past fall, I took my first infrared heated mat Pilates class, and it became an immediate obsession. As a mom of two under two, “me time” seems like an impossible task. I try to sneak out at least two times a week for a quick class. The room is dark, the energy is high, and the heat makes it feel like a built-in sauna session.” — Meredith, Director of Ecommerce

Dancing

“I’ve always thought people who can dance are just effortlessly cooler. What started as a fun experiment with hip-hop and heels classes has become so much more. It has helped me connect with my body, boost my confidence, and remind me to stop taking myself so seriously. Dancing brings out another side of my personality, almost like an alter ego. It does wonders for the calves too.” — Julie, Social Media Manager

In a world where calendars are packed and screen time is at an all-time high, making space for a hobby can feel like just another task. But it doesn’t have to be that deep. Try something new just because it feels good. Whether it’s picking up a paintbrush, joining a rec league, or learning a new stitch, the point is not perfection, it’s enjoyment.
