Kourtney Kardashian
Hi guys! I’m Michelle, and I’ve been part of the Poosh team since we launched the site in April 2019. Over the past two-ish years, I’ve had direct access to Kourt and how she lives her life. Since I was hired, there’s probably not a day where we haven’t DMed or texted about something Poosh-related. The majority of our content ideas come from conversations we’ve had on our group threads with Sarah. From dating and new recipes to wellness rituals and today’s topic, skincare, it’d be an understatement to say we cover it all in our text/DM/FaceTime exchanges.
It would be selfish of me to keep all the hacks and tips I’ve learned to myself, which is why I wanted to start a new series where I share the best insights I’ve gained since working with Kourt for almost two years now. I’m kicking it off with skincare, but we can get into whatever topic you’d like—just DM me @mscanga with what you’d like me to cover in the next one.
Read the best skincare hacks I’ve learned from Kourt below.
Healthy skin truly starts with what you put in your body. The easiest way to boost your skin and prevent aging? Collagen. You already know Kourt takes it daily, and yes, I knew the benefits prior to working with her, but I finally added it to my morning routine, and there’s no going back now.
If you’re breaking out or dealing with skin issues, take note of what you’re eating. Similar to my first point, adjusting your diet (i.e. reducing sugar intake) can really help turn your skin around and provide a natural glow. We (we as in me, Sarah, and Kourt) send photos back and forth all the time of our breakouts or dry skin patches, and nine out of ten times, Kourt responds with, “It’s probably from something you ate” or “Have you had more sugar than normal?”
The oil cleansing method. Yes, it’s a whole process, and you can read the entire step-by-step instructions here. Kourt also recommends using one of these washcloths to get the full experience.
Don’t be afraid to use heavier face creams on your body instead of your face. A lightbulb went off when Kourt told me she uses serums and moisturizers that aren’t great for her skin on other parts of her body so she’s not being wasteful. I’ve finally cleared out lingering bottles and jars of face products by lathering them on my knees, hands, and even butt cheeks.
Massage your face as often as you can. We’ve talked about the benefits of gua sha and face massages, but trust me, once you get in the routine and find a rhythm that works for you, you’ll wonder why you didn’t start sooner. Kourt’s massage therapist, Sophie, gifted me this gua sha tool for my birthday, and I keep it by my bed and use it pretty much every day.
Speaking of cool skincare tools, LED light therapy is another habit I’ve picked up since working at Poosh. Highly recommend buying this one—anti-aging and anti-acne benefits all in one mask.
Keep gel eye patches in the fridge. It’s an easy hack, and the chilled product feels so nice on your face. Kourt likes to apply them for at least five minutes prior to putting on any makeup.
Always apply serums in an upward direction or even gently pat on the product rather than tugging and pulling your skin, which can slowly cause sagginess. I was doing this wrong for so many years—now I consciously and delicately apply all my products.
This one is technically a body care tip, but double wash your body in the shower and always do the second rinse after you’ve conditioned and rinsed your hair. Lingering hair products like a heavy conditioner can sometimes lead to backne and unnecessary breakouts.
Triple mask once a week. Make it your Sunday-night ritual. Kourt typically starts with Phytomer White Lumination Essential Minerals Brightening Mask and then rotates the other two depending on what her skin needs. To be clear, she applies one at a time, rinses, and then repeats with the next mask. Technically, I could call it quadruple masking because she wears the LED mask while the product sets in.
