Since Kourt is currently back on keto (she likes to practice the high-fat diet to kickstart summer and detox her body), we wanted to share keto-friendly snacks to help curb midday cravings. Though Kourt typically tries her best to avoid snacking while on the restrictive diet, this is what she eats when afternoon hunger hits.
But first, let’s revisit the keto principles.
What is keto?
The basic idea behind ketosis is pretty simple—eat more fat and very few carbs. Eating this way leads your body to go into a state of ketosis, which makes you burn your body fat for energy instead of carbohydrates that come from your food.
In sum, high fat and low carbohydrates. So instead of reaching for crackers and sugar-filled foods, here are 10 bites that’ll keep you on ~keto~ track.
Kourt’s keto snack: from this gorgeous spread, she’ll eat the meat, cheese, and nuts and stay away from the fruits and crackers. She did dip walnuts into the olive dip and said it was “bomb.”
Since nuts have a nice crunch and salty taste, they are a great alternative to crackers while on keto.
More keto-friendly snacks:
Slice up an avocado with olive oil, salt, and pepper for a filling bite.
Store blueberries in the freezer so when you’re craving something sweet you can have a small dose of a frozen treat. You can even add a dollop of peanut butter on each berry.
Heat up a small bowl of cauliflower rice or broccoli rice with salt and pepper to taste.
Make a deconstructed “mini-wich” with sliced turkey meat rolled with dairy-free Kite Hill cream cheese.
Blend Kourt’s OG avocado smoothie (minus the dates and honey) for a refreshing and sippable snack. *Kourt swaps a couple of drops of Stevia in place of honey and dates.
Toss a small bed of greens topped with a hard-boiled egg and cucumbers and drizzle olive oil mixed with apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper.
Slice cucumbers with kalamata olives mixed together with walnuts and pecans for added crunch.
Make a batch of our no-bake rawnola that you can munch on throughout the day.
We saved this guilt-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, and keto-approved sweet treat for last. Prep these coconut butter cups and place them in the freezer—you won’t regret it.
