And when it comes to life hacks, we’re all ears and enthused to spill shortcuts we’ve learned while packing for trips, finding our personal style, and evolving our beauty regimen. With the help of Chef Sara (@insaraskitchen), we’re adding to the list and sharing 12 kitchen hacks everyone should know. Spruce up your cookery knowledge below.
• Keep potatoes from sprouting by storing a few apples with your potatoes.
• Keep your apple slices from browning by placing them in cold saltwater or lemon water.
• Put avocado seeds in a bowl or cup of water near whatever avocado you have out and avocados won’t brown. *A pro tip from Poosh team member, Sam Hyatt.
• Place store-bought herbs into a glass cup filled with water. This will maintain the herbs’ ripeness.
• Paper-thin veggies? Use a vegetable peeler to make them salad worthy and Instagram ready.
• To prolong the life of lettuce or edible greens, place the bundle in a moist paper towel inside a glass container in your fridge.
• Keep fruits and vegetables separate in the fridge, and keep tomatoes on the kitchen counter—they don’t like the cold.
• The best place to keep garlic is in the garage, where it’s dark and cool.
• Lemons, apples, and oranges last four times longer in a fridge than on a counter.
• Keep fresh ginger and turmeric in the freezer and use a spoon to peel the skin.
• The easiest way to remove a strawberry stem is by inserting a straw from the bottom of the strawberry and pushing through the stem.
• Keep onions in the refrigerator. This will help reduce tears while cutting the onion.
