Let’s line those lips … err, overline them. We know, we know, it’s not a new trend, but have you actually mastered the technique? If you’re shaking your head no, we go you. Ahead, we’re sharing the three most important tips to achieve the illusion of a fuller, plumper, and juicier pout.
Step 1: Exfoliate
Exfoliation will rid your lips of any dry, scaly flakes and bring circulation to the area. This extra blood flow naturally fills a few cracks for an instant plump and brings a flushed and rosy tint to your natural lips for a little color on their own. A lip scrub is perfect for the task, and most of them on the market are sugar-based, so if a little gets in your mouth (and it will), it’s perfectly safe and probably a little sweet. Try our DIY lip scrub recipe here.
Step 2: The lining
To take overlining to the next level, draw a straight line but not connecting the bow of your lips, which gives the illusion of a mini DIY lip lift. Kourt taught us this trick to make her lips look fuller. Also, use a darker shade to line and a lighter hue to fill in the lips.
Right now, we’re really into these nude lipstick pencil sets from Maison Jacynthe. The line is made with safe ingredients in recyclable packaging to reduce environmental impact so you can see why it earned our stamp of approval.
Step 3: Fill in your lips
As we mentioned, use a lighter shade to fill in your lips. You can use one of the hues from this set and smudge the color in using a brush or your finger to help blend in the base area of your lips.
Step 4 (optional): Add gloss
If you’re feeling glossy that is. We love a matte pout just as equally.
