From glass-like skin and pearly white teeth to strong, shiny nails and today’s topic, glistening hair, give us all the glossy tips. With the help of Dr. Iris Rubin, dermatologist and founder of Seen Haircare, plus in-house tips from our team, we’re sharing five ways to help your mane shine bright and look slippery soft. Learn the steps to take for healthier and luscious strands below.
Tip 1: Use a clarifying shampoo to rid the scalp of buildup (don’t forget to condition)
“A clarifying shampoo is designed to remove buildup from your hair. Your haircare products can leave a residue on your strands. Hard water and chemicals from swimming pools can also contribute to buildup. A clarifying shampoo is basically a shampoo that offers a deep cleanse for your hair—in a way, it’s a hair detox.
Conditioners help smooth the hair’s cuticle, giving you shiny hair. Seen conditioner is silicone-free, so it provides weightless moisture and shine without leaving a silicone residue that can build up and potentially dull the hair. If you have long hair, you can focus the conditioner on the ends for added hydration.”
Tip 2: Avocado hair mask
Did you know avocados are a natural detangler? Enter the avocado hair smoothie created by Kourt’s hairstylist, Andrew Fitzsimons. The DIY haircare mask only requires four ingredients (all-natural, of course) and 45 minutes of your time. The results? Smoother, shinier locks. Watch the step-by-step video.
Tip 3: Use the right brush for your hair type
“(For curly hair) I use the wet brush original detangler. I like it because it has soft, flexible bristles, so it minimizes breakage or damage to my hair when brushing.”
Poosh tip: try a neem comb, which can help reduce dandruff and promote scalp health, ultimately leaving you with stronger and less frizzy tresses.
Tip 4: Healthy hair is shiny hair
“Use a heat protectant before applying heat to the hair. Also, lower the heat setting on your hot tools when you can. Many hot tools have lower heat settings. Seen Blow-Out Creme and Seen Curly Creme are great choices since they have heat protectant, as well as UV and pollution protection for hair. A bonus is they have squalane, a natural humectant that adds shine.”
Tip 5: Rice water DIY
Many eastern countries have used the all-natural recipe for years, reaping its healing and nourishing perks. Learn the full benefits here and the simple step-by-step instructions below.
Instructions:
1. Rinse the uncooked grains and then drain the water.
2. Place the clean rice in a bowl and add 1-1 1/2 cups of water. Let it soak for at least an hour (you can let it sit up to 24 hours).
3. Strain the rice and save the water.
4. Shampoo and rinse your hair.
5. Massage the rice water into your hair and scalp and let it sit for at least 20 minutes (and up to an hour).
6. Rinse.
We recommend doing this 1-2 times a week.
