Get Involved in  BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so we are spreading the good word: get yourself checked. This doesn’t necessarily mean putting yourself through the boob-squish-erator that is the mammogram machine—though if you’re over 40 it may be time for that move, and every two to three years subsequently. In the meantime, starting in your 20s, it’s important to get a breast exam from your healthcare provider at least every one to three years, according to the National Cancer Society.

Besides getting professionally felt up, there are many ways you can participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Donating to Planned Parenthood is incredible because they offer mammograms, exams, and screenings as an all-encompassing part of women’s reproductive health.

You can shop, too. While some brands donate to cancer awareness foundations, some of our favorite non-toxic brands are born of the cause, and consistently contribute to products and processes that support healthy, cancer-free living.

Shiva Rose Holi Stick Natural Deodorant

Price: $26
Agent Nateur

If you haven’t already, do yourself a favor; cut out the hard stuff. And by hard stuff, we mean rubbing aluminum and other harsh, duct-clogging, toxic chemicals under your arms and delicate breast tissue. Yep, you have breast tissue in your armpits, and antiperspirant deodorant is not good for it. Agent Nateur makes it easy to make the switch with this sweet-smelling Shiva Rose scent that mingles with your body chemistry quite nicely. That’s the smell of cancer prevention.

Restorative Balm

Price: $26
CV Skinlabs

Put away the petroleum-based products. That’s right, we said it, throw out your Aquaphor. This is the ultimate clean, non-toxic salve and is your new, go-to everything balm. It’s especially amazing for skin that is suffering the after-effects of chemotherapy and other intense cancer treatments. CV Skinlabs has also put together a Mind + Body + Spirit box to cope with cancer diagnoses, in which 10% of all proceeds will go to the Breast Cancer Fund for the month of October. However, any CV Skinlabs purchase helps the cause—these are all the organizations CV Skinlabs donates to all year round.
