Ahh, your gym—err, we mean, your garage or living room, aka your at-home, makeshift fitness studio. While we’re still in quarantine and most gyms are closed or have set limitations, our homes are the safest and guess we could say the easiest way to get a workout in. That said, we wanted to update our fitness hacks to reflect exercising in the comfort of our abode. Learn the newest tips to make your “gym” experience a little easier this year.
Don’t own weights? Use household items like jars of sauce or a bottle of wine. You can even fill a reusable bottle with water to add weight to your next workout.
If you’re into Pilates and you do not own a fitness ball or Pilates block, you can use a firm roll of toilet paper as leverage underneath your knees for specific sequences. (Use the roll for its intended service afterward of course.)
Put on activewear first thing in the morning. This way, you’re out of your pj’s and ready for a session as soon as your schedule allows.
Use your own bodyweight for resistance training. We shared a full workout segment on this topic here.
Take advantage of the buddy system. This will keep you motivated and hold you accountable.
Have a workout basket readily available and in a spot you can easily access. Find out what Kourt keeps in her bin here.
Update your playlists often. Never underestimate the power of a good jam to help get you through a tough session.
Commit to at least 10 minutes and then increase (if you’re feeling it) from there.
Multitask by wearing ankle weights while you’re doing household chores or while you take a break and walk around the block.
Lastly, clean your yoga mat with our non-toxic DIY spray to keep germs and bacteria away.
