Everyone’s favorite time of year is almost here—fall.
Just because you may still be going through some sweltering hot days doesn’t mean you can’t start prepping your autumnal looks. This usually means cozy sweaters, black or brown boots, and a good neutral jacket.
But we’re not here to do the usual.
We tapped Dani Michelle, stylist for Hailey Bieber and Kendall, to give us the lowdown on the need-to-know fall trends. Spoiler alert: It includes some actual color—and peplum (we know, but stay with us here).
Below, Dani Michelle shares her five favorite trends for fall (and some pieces you can stock up on for the season).
“We’ve all been seeing the rise of ‘balletcore’ over the past year, and the ballet flat is here for fall paired with jeans or a skirt. I’ve loved the masculine look of a loafer over the past few seasons, but I feel like the ballet flat is a fresh and feminine take. Miu Miu, Alaia (Kourt wears), and Sandy Liang have elevated the trend, but I also love a classic Repetto.”

Michaela Mary Jane Flat
Pink Cendrillon Ballerina Flats
“Red is always a classic for me. With summer coming to an end, I’ve been seeing everyone embrace red as it’s predicted to be the new hot color in everything from clothing to accessories. It’s also really nice to style a vibrant color into your fall looks too. It feels fresh and powerful.”

“Luckily, this is something almost everyone already has in their closet. A classic belt is a chic and easy way to elevate any outfit. At a minimum, you can add a brown or black leather belt onto a jeans-and-T-shirt look for a polished everyday moment. But I also love using belts as an accessory to add a little shaping to a loose look and create a waistline.”

“I’ve been loving the updated takes on peplum I’m seeing this year. The key to this look is to balance the proportions of the rest of your outfit and to get a peplum that is hitting your body where you want to accentuate. A great way to ease into this trend is with a loose, less structured peplum like this Tove one.”
Gathered Strapless Top
Elise Peplum Blouse
Alexa Pale Grey Puffball Dress
“A long jacket is my go-to trick to add confidence and power to any look. Of course, we can wear outerwear all year long, but for fall, finding a long jacket that is part of the look (and that you don’t take off) is my favorite. It’s so strong and sleek.”
