Quarantine has brought out the DIY side of me. I’ve been making homemade body oils, hand sanitizer, and now, yoga mat spray. You can realistically use this spray to clean any workout item that your hands/feet/face come into contact with. I’ve been using it to clean my bands too—if you have weights and/or a workout ball, this should do the trick for those as well. This non-toxic mat cleaner disinfects courtesy of witch hazel and tea tree oil, and offers a calming-yet-invigorating scent thanks to lavender and eucalyptus. While eucalyptus essential oil is optional, it actually has antimicrobial benefits, so I just add a drop or two for good measure. Since my yoga mat touches my feet and face (and I’m incredibly prone to breakouts), I love that the witch hazel will disinfect without adding harsh chemicals to my sensitive skin (note: no Lysol or Clorox on your yoga mat!).
Post-workout, I spray my mat with the homemade cleaner, then rub it around the mat with a washcloth and leave it out to air dry entirely. This gorgeously scented concoction can also be misted into the room pre-workout to set the mood. Now, there are no excuses not to clean your workout gear—and certainly no excuses not to take that Zoom class.
