The Bone Broth Kourt Is Making This Winter

The best recipes always come recommended by a friend. Like this one, which is a homemade chicken bone broth from the mom of Kourt’s friend and Poosh contributor, Jennifer Galvan. Not only is the soup perfect for a cozy winter lunch or dinner, but it’s also packed with some solid health benefits.

As you know, chicken bone broth is highly nutritious, containing loads of calcium and collagen (you know our love for collagen!). Plus, it’s anti-inflammatory and a gut detoxifier. Stay warm and healthy this cold-weather season with a delicious bowl of homemade broth. Bonus: you can store it for up to three months in the freezer. Learn the step-by-step instructions below.

Homemade Chicken Bone Broth

Recipe Type:Lunch/Dinner
Dietary Info:Gluten-Free, Keto, Paleo
Serving Size:4-6
Prep Time:Overnight
Cook Time:6-8 hours
Total Time:1 day

Ingredients:

6 pounds of chicken back, neck, and feet (2 pounds each)
2 medium onions
4 celery sticks
2 carrots
A bunch of parsley
Whole garlic
1/4 cup chopped ginger
One tablespoon kosher salt (plus additional salt for brining)
1/2 tablespoon pepper
1/2 tablespoon turmeric
3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

Instructions:

1. Wash and clean the chicken. Put it in a big pot and cover with cold cold water. Add 1/2 cup of sea salt or kosher salt and put it in the fridge overnight.
2. The next morning, empty the water and rinse the chicken with cold water.
3. Chop the veggies into big pieces. Put everything in a big pot and cover with cold water.
4. Bring the water to a boil then lower the heat and let it cook for 6 to 8 hours.
5. Empty everything into another pot that’s covered with a colander. Take the broth and run it through a sifter to remove all the small pieces.
6. Put the broth in mason jars and enjoy, or freeze them for later.* (Remember not to fill up the jars all the way to the top! Leave a little space in the jar to avoid breakage in the freezer.)

*You can freeze the broth for up to three months.
