Most women have never been properly sized for a bra (raises hand!). But the perks of wearing a well-fitted bra can well … result in a perkier chest. To point us in the right direction when shopping for our next bra, we tapped Agent Provocateur’s Creative Director, Sarah Shotton, to share her expertise on the topic and shed light on the details to look for to ensure the best fit for our chest. “You should always wear great-fitting bras to prevent sagging boobs. If the back is too loose or the cup is too big or small, it will not support the breast properly and will cause your chest to drop. The other main note when fitting a bra is to make sure the wire fits under the breast correctly and you pick a shape that works best for you. So if you’re exercising that day, you should be wearing a supportive sports bra and not a flimsy bra.” Below, Sarah is breaking down the styles that will lift and hold your bust properly.
For an everyday bra, look for something that offers “the Rolls-Royce of support” and cups that lift you up. “It’s also important to buy one with thick straps that are comfortable and take the weight off the breast.”
“If your breasts are large, a fitted-full cup is always the best option, because you get the pull from all the angles. Be sure to go for thicker straps here too.”
“Some women find padding helps for extra support. So if you prefer a padded shape to a non-padded, find something with a padded bottom cup for great support.”
“For overnight support, a bralette that’s breathable with a secure wide band at the bottom is your best bet.”
