Black Sesame Cucumber Salad

If your current mood is “something fresh, but make it interesting,” this is your salad. Crisp cucumbers are just the vehicle here. The real moment is the black sesame dressing.

We’re deep in our black sesame era right now, and for good reason. These tiny seeds have been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine and are known for their nourishing, beauty-supporting properties. Think antioxidants, glow support, and that inside-out kind of wellness that shows up on your skin.

Nutty, glossy, and a little bit dramatic (in the best way), this dressing pulls everything together with soy, ginger, garlic, and a subtle hit of heat. It’s the kind of flavor that makes you pause after the first bite and go back for another forkful immediately.

Black Sesame Cucumber Salad

Ingredients

Cucumber Salad
5 Persian cucumbers
1/4 cup cilantro, finely chopped
1 tablespoon salt
Additional black sesame seeds, if desired
Dressing
4 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon honey
2 tablespoons black sesame seeds
1 teaspoon crunchy chili oil
1 teaspoon grated ginger
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
3 green onions, finely diced

Directions

1. Slice the cucumbers as desired, either into thin rounds or using the chopstick method (place chopsticks on either side of the cucumber and slice diagonally on one side, then horizontally on the other).
2. Place the sliced cucumbers in a bowl and sprinkle with the salt. Let sit for 15–30 minutes to draw out excess moisture.
3. Meanwhile, prepare the dressing by combining all dressing ingredients in a bowl and mixing well.
4. Rinse the cucumbers to remove excess salt, then pat dry.
5. Transfer the cucumbers to a bowl and toss with the dressing, cilantro, and additional black sesame seeds if desired.
