We’re smack-dab in the middle of jorts season (although every season can be jorts season if you try hard enough).
If you haven’t been inundated with the style on TikTok, celebrity street style roundups, or while out and about this summer, jorts are technically jean shorts, but in reality, they’re so much more. We’re talking about the long, loose, just-above-the-knee shorts beloved by Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber, and more. Jorts have evolved beyond their denim-only origins and are available in even more on-trend fabrics like leather and linen. We spoke with Dani Michelle, stylist to both Kendall and Hailey, on how to pull off the jorts trend with ease.
“For summer, I love jorts because it’s more of a fashion-girl way of wearing shorts—a little more mature than short-short cutoffs. While feeling elevated, it’s also really laid back,” she says. “Playing with dimensions is key to pulling off the jort trend. You don’t want something that can feel older or more masculine to become frumpy with a big top, so I like to keep the top really light and little.”
When it comes to finding your perfect pair of jorts, there’s no wrong answer.
Dani shared some of her favorites with us but stresses that you don’t need to spend a lot to nail the trend. You can uncover some denim gems at your local thrift store or even grab a pair of scissors and upgrade an old pair of jeans that’s been collecting dust in the back of your closet.
“There are a lot of great brands that are into this trend,” she shares, “But it’s also an easy thrift shop/vintage find or even a good DIY project for jeans you already have!”
