Kiana Baldon is the founder of Jentl, a body care brand that we added to our Poosh Shop 2.0 and has quickly become a customer (and Poosh team) favorite. The creamy and hydrating whipped butter is made in small batches and is vegan, organic, and cruelty-free so you can feel even better about what you’re putting on your body. The dreamy butter turns into an oil that thoroughly moisturizes the most dehydrated of skin. Learn more about the founder and shop the post-shower product at the end.
When and why did you start your company?
“Officially, June 3, 2019. Prior to Jentl, there was gentle. I had a true need to reconnect internally that was raw, transparent, and vulnerable. At the time, I was working full time, carrying a full course load, and balancing an internship on the side. I’d been practicing check-ins for a while and decided to create a physical product that I could incorporate into my daily life that reminded me to breathe, to slow down, and to nurture the relationship I carry with myself and others. Jentl became the tool I used to find my footing, and essentially my voice. That’s what makes Jentl stand tall all on its own. It’s far more than a product; it’s a tool.”
What has your career path been like?
“Whimsical.”
What’s the core mission of your brand?
“Inside, out. (Listen to 4:25-6:00 of ‘Lost Queens’ by Pharrell.)”
What’s your most popular item that you sell and why?
“Our Milk + Honey Whipped Body Butter is by far our best seller! It carries a warm, rich blend of honey, creamy milk, and oats that lends itself to those of us that love duality. It is strong enough to stand on its own, and light enough to be layered under your scent of choice.”
What has surprised you the most since starting your company?
“The impact of visibility and the power of consistency.”
What’s a lesson you’ve learned as a founder?
“Rest is required, and often. It’s so easy to get warped into working anywhere, anytime, and before you know it, you are burnt out and in desperate need of a homemade grilled cheese sandwich. Intentionally making (aka taking) time back for myself has been huge. The work exists because it was created. I have learned to take care of myself to be in a position to take care of Jentl.”
What can we expect in the future for Jentl?
“MORE! Jentl is an experience, a tool, a feeling, a home. The projects we will be rolling out in the future are a direct reflection of just that. Stick around and see!”
