We can all agree that the term “all-natural” is thrown around loosely in the beauty industry, making it tricky to decode what’s actually in the items you use daily. Women use an average of 12 personal care products a day. That’s your face wash, hand soap, makeup remover, moisturizer, deodorant—the list goes on. And what’s in these everyday products? If you’re not already doing your research, now’s the time to start (not judging, just encouraging).
You don’t need to switch everything over to all-natural—we’re only human and understand it’s a process. Thanks to organizations like the EWG (Environmental Working Group), we have a user-friendly place to research harmful vs. safe ingredients—making the process way less stressful.
Kourt also recently teamed up with the EWG to promote their #BeautyMadeBetter campaign—which seeks support for reforming the nation’s outdated cosmetics law.
But back to the app and why you should download it (if you haven’t already). The Skin Deep app gives beauty products (and groceries) ratings based on nutrition, ingredient concerns, and degree of processing. The best scores are rated with a green “1” and the worst scores are a red “10.” By using the barcode scanner or search tool, you’ll be provided with an in-depth breakdown of a product’s ingredients. The more you explore the app, the more you’ll recognize specific toxins that are red flags, like formaldehyde and triclosan (to name a couple).
Enough with the words, head to the app store here to download and explore your new go-to ingredient guide.
